Have you that are grandparents noticed that the older you get, the more sentimental you get? I see news pieces on TV about children talking about how they don't have food or warm clothing, that are worried because their mom and dad don't have a job and I can't help but to cry and pray for them. I have my hands full helping to take care of 3 children, their spouses and our 7 grandchildren..........I would just love to be a millionaire so I could help all these kids who are hurting.

I know, I know...........yes...........be concerned for their soul and spiritual condition......I do. It's just hard to address that when you see they are hungry and hurting.

I just fall to pieces for these kids who've lost their parent to the war; been there............can't handle it.

I'm not a grandma yet but it breaks my heart too. I just can't abide children hurting for the mistakes of adults. Problem these days is so that there are so many playing the system that the people in real need don't get the help. I've stopped putting presents under the christmas tree at the shopping centre after I heard a family bragging about all the presents they get. Now when I meet a family in need I give direct. As for their spiritual side. I think we testify of Christ through our actions as well as prayers.

God Bless

Yes, I'm right there with ya trc. I want to reach out and help all those in need.

This year, as part of our "Christmas giving" we donated money to provide poor families in India a pair of chickens and/or rabbits. To most of us this seems like such a small thing but to them this can provide a steady food source and even a bit of income. It would be nice to have more money so we could provide more but I'm thankful we are able (and willing) to do what we can.

Here's what you do, print out a coupons saying that you donated this much money to the charity, wrap it up in some sort of box, and when people open their presents and seen what you have done in replace of buying them anything, I think they will love it (or maybe not if they expect something bigger).

I hate seeing the greed vs. need too! There was a house down the street last week giving out free toys. My husband said the lawn was jam-packed. He joked about going to get some and then seriously wondered how many people went and took free toys who really could have just bought them themselves...maybe sacrificed some beer or cigarettes instead.

Craigslist is FULL of begging this time of year, and you can hardly trust anyone.

Our church gave out Thanksgiving baskets to several needy families who have been attending our church and that was a blessing as they were truly needy and therefore truly grateful.

Sorry... :hijack:

I will say, back on topic, that all the murder and abuse cases of children have bothered me tenfold since I became a parent.

True, I hate to hear of abused children.

Just as bad is the governments overreaction to such things. Their growing interference in how families raise their children is something right out of Nazi Germany or the Communist Bloc countries. Families are hassled or split, children are interogated like criminals in efforts by government officials to get them to say something they can use against the parents, children are carted off to often unsavory foster homes or state run youth homes, parents are dragged through the mud with their reputations ruined based upon nothing but suspicion or a false claim filed by someone who doesn't like them, etc.

Abusing children is evil and the government is commiting much evil against both children and parents in their efforts to "save the children".

As always, if biblical mandates for dealing with those who do violate the law were upheld while those not violating the law were left alone, the situation would be much better.

James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Yes, trc! I am not a grandma yet (other than our adopted-in-love daughter), but I am of grandma age...and it breaks my heart about these kinds of things. I just want to have a home big enough to take care of lots and lots of children...but I am not a millionaire, either.

There is nothing wrong with your feelings. James 2 would exhort us to show forth Christ and our salvation to others through the good we do.
