Members Invicta
My daughter is getting married on Saturday week, 31st July. She has elected to have a bring and share barbecue, in stead of the usual wedding reception, about 150 miles or so from here. It is to be in a field on a camping site. I have said I will bring some salads and so far have decided on a Three bean Salad, a Mushroom Salad, and Taboulé. Has anyone got any other ideas? I have said I will bring some salads and so far have decided on a Three bean Salad, a Mushroom Salad, and Taboulé. Has anyone got any other ideas? What about a spaghetti salad? It's actually a pasta salad, using spaghetti noodles. You could add whatever veggies you like, but peppers (a variety of colors), cucumber, black olive and onion are really good. Use an italian/tomato dressing and sprinkle with parmesan cheese - the dressing will soak into the pasta as it sits, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring some with you to freshen the salad, and maybe just bring the parmesan cheese for people to add if they want to. A potato salad might be good, too - it goes well with barbecue. And congrats on your daughter's wedding! The last two years have seen lots of weddings here, with a number of kids that grew up with my son (many whom I babysat) getting married. We have just such a wedding to go to, also on the 31st. Yes a potato salad is one of my favourites. I make it with new potatoes, french dressing, finely chopped red onion and chives, or sometimes parsley. A Greek girl I new made it with coriander (I think you may have another name for that?) and olive oil. I also thought of a rice salad with black olives. I've never had a potato salad with anything other than a mayo dressing. We call the leaves of the coriander plant cilantro. Rice salad with black olives? Is that all that goes in it? Sounds interesting.

No I make a rice salad with whatever I think at the time, I jaust came across a lentil and rice salad which I may do. I must admit that I don't usually follow recipes to the letter, but add things as I think of them, so sometimes it works better than others. We went to France for the day, yeaterday to celebrate ny Wife's birthday. (sh 71) We went to a market and bought various vegetables including feuille de chêne lettuces. Our supermarket at home doesn't do them but some specialist food shops do, but they only do the red leaf one but in France we got a red and green one. In English they are "Oak Leaf" The man on the stall asked if we called lettuce "Salade?" They call ordinary lettuce "Salade" but others by their name. We said that Salad in English had a much wider use and we would call them all lettuce, fr "la laitue." The conversation got somewhat confusing. On the way back the british immigration man in Calais, looked at my wife's passport and said "Happy Birthday." which made her day. Only two days to go. I have decided on 3 Bean salad. I usually use dried beans but have decided to use canned this time (Actually I am using 5 different beans." Potato Salad. new potatoes vinaigrette parsley and chives. Mushroom Salad. Sliced mushrooms in adreesing we buy in France, Sauce Crudité. I don't eat mushrooms but it seems popular, they always ask me to do it at our church barbeceue. Celeri Remoulade. Grated celeriac in a dressing. You don't get it here but is very popular in France. I usually make my own but I gaot a large tub, 1.5kg 3.3lb, on offer, yesterday so I bought that. Taboulé. A near eastern dish made with cous cous, tomatoes, cue, lemon juice, olive oil and lots of mint, as opposed to Tabouleh a similar middle eastern salad made with Bulghur wheat. Radishes. I got a lot of the type we call "French breakfat" and the French call "Radis allongé" I also got some terrine and a smoked garlic sausage. I am not sure if it is the sausage that is smoked or the garlic.

Members Invicta
So how was the wedding? The salads sound delicious! It went very well. We went for breakfast before the ceremony, after which they cycled on their tandem to Paddington station, my daughter still in her wedding dress, caught the train to Didcot, then on their tandem again to Watlington in Oxfordshire, with a convoy of cyclists, about 25 miles in all. Here she was removing the cans from their cycle. There was so much food=, really nice, too
Administrators HappyChristian Posted August 4, 2010 Administrators Share Posted August 4, 2010 Wow - that's neat. Never heard of anyone riding a bike in a wedding dress. I'm glad the wedding was nice. The one we went to that day was nice, too. There was only cake there, but that's okay - hubby and I had dinner with some friends afterwards. This wedding took place over in Amish area, so we saw a number of buggies on the road. We passed a park where a great big Amish picnic was going on. It was something to see all those buggies lined up!

My daughter was baptized in her teenage years but her faith turned out to have been on stony ground. But she is still my daughter and I love her. But she is still my daughter and I love her. I am sorry to hear that, Invicta! I will pray for them. (and of course you still love her! If you don't - how in the world will she ever understand the love of our Heavenly Father!)
