I would like to know what you believe it means to "call upon the name of the Lord". I am convinced that we have put a lot of emphasis on the prayer. The key is the word "call" does this word mean pray? I believe it means: to trust; to depend upon; to believe. Much like when I teach a class I "call" on my experience to help me. Or the way my wife has called upon me for all most 30 years to take care of her. What do you think?

...he believes he must believe in Jesus Christ and be baptized to be saved? ...he believes he can lose his salvation? ...he believes Jesus Christ is the only way to heaven for him, but isn't sure if He is for everybody?

Recently heard a preacher say that if someone doesn't believe in the diety of Christ, or does not believe Christ is God, that person can't be saved. Does anyone know where this doctrine came from in the Bible and/or what verse(s) substantiate this statement? This is not a discussion of the trinity, or church history, or creeds. I would like to keep this focused on the question. Thanks.

G?day! I found this interesting video on YouTube looking at the issue of Calvinism, it is a debate with James White (Calvinist) and Dave Hunt (non-Calvinist). It is quite a decent video, so I thought I would share it with you, and get your opinions on it as well. http://sovereigntybaptist.blogspot.com/ ... -dave.html May this video encourage us all to think more theologically as we come to dealing with the deep things of Scripture.

We had a missionary come to our church Sunday night and, while he was giving his testimony, he said that he got saved at the age of 3. I myself find this hard to believe and consider it to be an insult to my intelligence. We have 10 children and none of them were ready to be saved at 3, 4, or 5 years of age. My wife said that I should have asked him if he was still in diapers or was he potty trained when he got saved.

I was just having an interesting conversation with a co-worker who was an IFB but was led astray by Calvinism and turned Presbyterian (there were also pot-shots being thrown in by our resident Lutheran...). He asked whether regeneration came before or after salvation. I, of course, said after and explained non-Calvinist salvation to him. Why this caught me off-guard I'm not sure because I know the Reformed position, but he was completely stuck on Ephesians 2:8-9, though not in the way that we understand it. Both of them are convinced that accepting the free gift of salvation is a decision and thus action taken to affect salvation and thus a work that can be boasted. …

A scenario my husband recently heard about. This was from a conservative.: Person: I know I am not saved because I do not feel sorry for the ?sins? I commit. How sorry would I need to feel? Preacher: ?Being sorry has absolutely nothing to do with salvation. It is an instantaneous event. When you believe/trust it is complete. Later on sanctification occurs where you become more Christ like and change your ways but being saved doesn?t remove the sin desires from us?.

I read a debate on another forum about salvation and "Lordship salvation." Just wondering if anyone could give me some clarity on these topics. John 3:16 says "...that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life." Thus, all it takes for salvation is to BELIEVE. Repentance and good works are the fruit of a faithful Christian, but without them you are still a believer and still saved? Or is repentance ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY? I repent for my sins and do what I believe to be "good works" for my friends, family, church, community and witness, educate, etc. But is that necessary to salvation? Are grace (i.e. "saved by the grace of God) and faith…

I have been trying to determine the biblical order that occurs in salvation. Not looking to debate here but simply get your input. It seems to me that the proper order would be... Hearing the word Conviction godly sorrow (worketh repentance) confession of sin which I believe happens simultaneously with repentance (Mark 1:4-5) Baptism (not required for salvation) Walking in newness of life (evidence of salvation) Your thoughts, Orvals

What does the bible say about Eternal Security? Are true believers genuinely secure? The bible is the inerrant word of God and has no contradictions, and this passage irrefutably proves the the a Child of God cannot lose their salvation. Any conditional security passage would posit a contradiction, thus they would have to be reconciled. The truth is that there are NO passages in scripture which can exegetically prove that a Child of God can lose their salvation. First lets deal with The Recipients (SHEEP). The Recipients

I was saved about 10 years ago, and I'm sure I was saved. God transformed my life and proved Himself to me over and over. I've been a member of an IFB church ever since, and I always believed that once a person was saved, nothing could separate him from the love of God, nothing could cause him to be unsaved. About a month ago I started questioning God about hell. I think it started because I was thinking about my dead grandfather, whom I loved very much, and who died when I was a child, years before I was saved. I never got a chance to witness to him. I should have just trusted God with the whole thing, but instead I got angry with Him and started questioning His …

I have been troubled by something I have recently seen. I hope someone can shed some light on this topic for me. I will do more research on it, but obviously there is only so much time, and i hoped that one of you have done the research already. Basically, in the video it quotes church Bishops that were directly linked to the apostles. It basically states that the early church taught salvation in 2 stages...1. Grace through Faith. (which is what we cling to) 2 After conversion it describes Eternal Security as conditional. He said the apostles didn't worry about their salvation, but taught that a person can walk away basically. I immediately thought to myself this guy is a…

WARNING - It's a little long! PART 1 I am sure many of you are aware that there are those who posit that either A) there is no "Hell" or everybody will be saved, or C) "Hell" is just death (or the grave), or finally D) they can not believe in "a God" that would condemn so many to eternal punishment. I am not interested in "apologetics" for the sake of debate. I am interested in "apologetics" so I can better answer questions when dealing with either non believers or with a fellow maturing Christian (of which I too am hopefully growing). Background: The term "hell" in the Bible (KJV) in the OT is translated from the word "sheol". It is translated as such 31 t…

How to be saved (born again) and join the family of God!!! Romans: Chapter 10 verse 9-10-13 GOD SAYS= That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in your heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be Saved. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be Saved.................... ---------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------- An example prayer for those that have never talked to God! - According to Jesus Christ's testimony as a credible expert witness in all matters pertaining to the afterlife; most of the world's responsible souls haven't been making it to safety when they cross over to the other side. ● Luke 13:22-24 . . And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. ● Matt 7:13-14 . . Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, a…

wrong faith 1 2

When I participate in internet forums I always present my beliefs in absolute terms. I generally see religious issues as black and white and seldom ever gray. I have no qualms about telling someone that they are wrong on matters of religion when I have reason to believe that they are wrong. For this I am usually criticized mercilessly. What I want to know is, can you insist that your faith is right if you are unwilling to say other faiths (or variations on your own faith) are wrong? If you are unwilling to say others are wrong when they don?t accept your faith, can you have any faith at all?

What is the condition of being saved? 1 2
by Guest Guest- 19 replies

The bible tells us that the condition that we have to be in, in order to be saved, is a sinless condition. Romans 6:22 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. If we should sin, then we should repent, immediately, if we want to stay in a saved condition. 1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: Notice the words, "if any man sin", that statement shows us that it is possible to sin and to miss out on our Salvation. That is why, we have the benefit of repenta…

The Lord said that no greater gift can a man give than to lay down his life for a friend. This passage seemingly refers to physical life in context IMO (since we have the authority to actually give up our physical life for another) BUT: And let me caveat this by saying that I see no where in Scripture where this is possible so this thread is purely hypothetical. If the Lord made provision at some point in the future, would you exchange your place in Heaven with a lost loved one in hell FOR ETERNITY? If the answer is no for just one loved one, how about for all your loved ones whom are lost either currently living or already dead? Pondering on my own an…

2001 Translation, has removed; soul, grace, gospel, hell, Christ, Cross, Spirit, everlasting life, and who knows what else... The translators of this version are not wanting to adhere to any doctrine; but without doctrine what is the bible worth-nothing... It seems that ever-so-often someone comes out of some seminary somewhere, and thinks that they can reconfigurate, reorganize, redistibute the word of God... I call them all "just another version"... the K.J.V. is in my opinion still the best soulwinning tool that the soulwinner has, because... ...it has soul, grace, gospel, hell, Christ, cross, Spirit, everlasting life and all of there doctrines in-tact and ready t…

I don't really care what all y'all think. I could ask 20 people and get 20 different answers I want to know what Samer thinks (I emailed him and he never replied, so hopefully he will reply here). I'm not sizing you up for debate brother. I just want to know. If there is a place on the forum where you have defined it, please point me there. Would you agree with H.A. Ironside and his definition of repentance in these following quotes? "Repentance is the very opposite of meritorious experience. It is the confession that one is utterly without merit, and if he is ever saved at all it can only be through the merits of our Lord Jesus Christ, 'who gave himself a rans…

What questions should a christian ask himself to know for sure he is saved? Like someone say " I have accepted Jesus as my Savior" but the truth is, he is a mormon. I read countless posts (other message boards) saying Romney, a mormon, must be saved because he publicly announced that he accepted Jesus as his savior. Of course, one the post here on OLB reminded me those posts so I thought I would start this topic.
