Here we have a very tasty thread for all of you out there that enjoy this particular confection. My favorites are cakes that have a substantial "body" as well as flavor. For this reason I do not care for angel food cakes. They are too light with insufficient substance. However, cakes that are more robust with fruit in them::: They are to die for. :lol  On that regard here is one of my favorites.

Ok so I had a lady request mint buttercream for her cake today. So I put a whole (tiny) vial of creme de menthe oil and then needed a whole vial of peppermint in my buttercream (larger cake). Tinted it very pale green (the green makes it taste better! :ha). Tasted pretty good...but then I had an idea.... I took a little piece of chocolate cake I had extra in the freezer....put a thin layer of the mint bc on it...and then took some leftover dark chocolate ganache and spread that on top. Ohhhh YUM! I think in March, then the bridal show rolls around, I'm going to make a three layer chocolate cake (a really good homemade one I have, better than the one I had thro…

I saw the doctor yesterday. I have recently moved here and just registered with him. He took a blood test last week, and he said the results were good. No problems with sugar level, cholesterol was 4, which was good (he said) Heart Liver and Kidney functions all OK and was good for a man of my age, (?) but I was a bit overweight and my blood pressure was a bit high. Should I go on a diet?

All About Breadmakers

I am interested in getting a breadmaker. I am wanting to know if they are a more frugal as well as healthy option. Do you have to use pre-made bread mix with all those preservatives, or can you make stuff in the breadmaker from scratch? I want to be able to make almost everything in whole wheat without preservatives.

[attachment=0]Ok Jess noticed me describing a cake to Katie in chat, and so I'm posting it for her to see, since she was laughing at it. This was requested as a groom's cake. Don't ask me why...I just do as I'm told. The customer is always right, you know....

I started w/ 2 weeks at a time and have finally worked up to a month. It has been SO nice to simply go to my freezer and decided what to fix that night. It has brought down my grocery bill a little as well!!

Yummy! It is getting to that time of year when my mind turns to hayrides, pumpkins, colored leaves, cool nights and bright days. Chili is a favorite dish of mine during the fall. How do you make yours or what do you enjoy in yours?

Don't ask how we got it, but we have a bunch of grated radish sitting in our fridge. I just don't know what to do with it. I don't really like radish much. I'm making 3 cups of it into a casserole right now, but there's still a bunch left. I have no idea if the casserole will be any good....if it is, I'll probably make another batch of that, but I'll still have more radish to use up. So, any ideas or recipes for what to do with lots of grated radish?

I'm just wondering what you, personally, use canned potatoes for w/o the end product being starchy. I normally use fresh potatoes for whatever I want to make but last year I canned some potatoes because I had too many. I recently tried making mashed potatoes out of them and they were really starchy and didn't taste that great. Any ideas?

Not everyone grows up with a cooking mom or dad. Cook books don't give basic tips. Some people grow up eating t.v. dinners and don't even know what knife to use to cut what. Lets see if this works: Just post tips. Not talk about previous tips, just tips... lots of good stuff, you might see as basic, but others don't know. Tip after tip after tip so people see this thread, start reading, and get a HUGE amount of great advice. To start: Smash a head of lettuce onto the counter, stem first. Then grab the stem and pull it from the head. This will break all the leaves free and allow for easy disassembly. (Never cut lettuce with a metal blade, it will cause it to …

We had the following::::::: ***Dandelion greens prepared as we would endive, spinach or other dark leafy greens. Wilt/scorch lightly and serve with sweet 'n' sour bacon dressing and sliced hard-boiled eggs. ***Fried ground-hog (aka whistle pig, aka marmot, aka wood-chuck). This tastes exactly like rabbit but has a whole lot more meat. ***Squirrel pot-pie. ***Fried wild rabbit. ***Wild broccoli. ***Wild fox grapes. ***Wild June berries. They taste exactly like blueberries, but grow on trees. ***Wild blackberries. ***Black Raspberries if we could find them growing wild. ***Tayberries (aka Taeberries, aka wine-berries, aka wild red raspberries) ***Wi…

I love home made bread, and I have a bread machine I use at times, but the bread from the machine has a hard crust that is not fun to eat. I tried an experiment that works great for me. I made the recipe for dinner rolls in my machine. The recipe states that when the dough setting is finished, to put the dough on a floured surface and let it rest for 15 minutes and then make rolls out of it and bake them. Well, what I did was put the dough in a greased 9x5 loaf pan, covered it with a cloth, and let it rise for an hour in a warm place. Then I spread butter on the loaf and baked it at 350 til it was done, about 30 minutes. Then I dumped it out on a rack and spread butte…

I love this recipe... it's so simple and tastes so good! (You don't have to buy all the low-fat ingredients if you don't want to... the recipe is just written to be "low-fat") Ingredients: * 2 cups (16 ounces) fat-free reduced-sugar vanilla yogurt * 1 package (1 ounce) sugar-free instant white chocolate or vanilla pudding mix * 1 carton (8 ounces) frozen reduced-fat Cool Whip

Quick & Easy - Taco Soup

A co-worker gave me this recipe. It's really quick to make and it tastes good! It makes probably 4 servings or more (I am guessing). Here's what you need: 1 LB Hamburger, cooked 1 Tall Can Corn (or Frozen Corn) 1/2 Onion, diced 2 Cans Stewed Tomatoes 2 Cans Chili Beans 1 Pkg Taco Seasoning Mix 1 Dry Pkg Ranch Dressing Mix 1 Can Water Tortilla Chips Grated Cheese All you have to do is dump everything into a pot and stir it (including all the liquid in the cans of tomatoes and beans). The only thing you wait till the end for, is the tortilla chips and grated cheese - those go on the top once it's hot.

This was in a newspaper, written by a culinary student at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte. PANEER an Indian Cheese-- similar to Farmer cheese. 2 qts whole milk 4 Tbsp fresh lemon juice 1Tbsp salt Bring milk to a simmer in a saucepan and add salt and lemon juice; in about 10 seconds the curds will separate from the whey and lump together. Strain the curdled milk through cheesecloth, and hang the cheesecloth over a bowl until all the liquid has drained. Press the curds into an 8 inch square glass dish, cover with plastic wrap, then weight the cheese with a second baking dish and a couple of cans. Refrigerate at least 2 hours and up to overnight. Remove che…

We all get lots of dandelions in the Spring. This is a Martha Stewart recipe, so it has to be good. Dandelion Jelly 4 cups water 4 cups dandelion blooms (yellow and white parts only) (fresh picked) 1/4 cup + 1-1/2 tsp powdered pectin (such as Sure-gel) 4-1/2 cups sugar 2 Tbsp fresh squeezed lemon juice Bring water and dandelion blossoms to a boil in a medium saucepan. Reduce heat to medium and simmer 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand 10 minutes. Strain through a fine sieve into a measuring cup, pressing solids. Discard blossoms. (You should have 3 cups of liquid; add water if necessary. Mix pectin and 1/2 cup sugar in a small bowl. Bring dandelion…
