We love this! It might sound strange, but it's tasty! Sorry it's not exact measurements. Dilly Beef Burgers 2-4 lb beef roast pickle juice cheese onions hot dog buns Put the roast in the crockpot, and cover with dill pickle juice (strain out the dill/seasoning bits so it's just the juice). Cook on low til well done and shreds easily (6 hours?) Take out roast and shred and put in other bowl. Spoon out a bunch of the dill juice into the beef so it's good and moist. Add about a cup of shredded cheese to the beef and warm in the microwave if it's not hot anymore. Serve on hot dog buns with either raw onion slices, or sauteed onion. We love it with lots of saute…

Hi Everybody, :D You all know how we enjoy rich full-bodied flavors from our foods. Here is a real treat for you to try::::::::: From your grocery store or specialty store get bulk unroasted grains....get as many different varieties as you can::::: Millet Steel cut oats Buckwheat groats Hard wheat Barley Soft heat Triticale Rye Mix them all together, then re-bag and put them back into the freezer again. Keep these bags of grain locked up tight in the deep freezer until time of use. Take out what you need for grinding and put the remainder right back again, quickly. This is done to retain freshness. I also like to double bag them. :D …

All About Breadmakers

I am interested in getting a breadmaker. I am wanting to know if they are a more frugal as well as healthy option. Do you have to use pre-made bread mix with all those preservatives, or can you make stuff in the breadmaker from scratch? I want to be able to make almost everything in whole wheat without preservatives.

If any of you have recipes that does not contain eggs, nuts, and soy please share. My son's allergy test (both blood and skin test) shows he is allergic to them and may be triggering his ezcema that just won't go away. He is not getting any sleep from it. And we are bored with eating the same old stuff. I need something creative. What we don't like is anything with onions, bell peppers, and strong spicy stuff like taco (If it is extremely mild, that's ok) Thanks.

My brother got me a convection oven for Christmas that is also a toaster oven and has a rotisserie in it. We did a roast last night. The meat was moist!!! Hubby can't wait to try a chicken, now. Does anyone else have one? If so, do you have any suggestions for fixing stuff on it?

I'm a type II diabetic, and I also have to have a low sodium diet. My wife has tried several things, but she and I both agree that most of them just don't seem to measure up in either taste or help in controlling blood glucose. Many of the recipes have been very "off" in their representations and portion sizes. Anyhow, I'm interested. I am disabled and stay home and sometimes have to cook or get dinner started. Suggestions?

Apple cider?
by Anon- 10 replies

Went to an orchard/farm today and picked apples with the kids (not sure what I'm going to do with all of them, LOL, don't want fattening stuff around the house) and got a little single serve thing of their fresh apple cider. It was REALLY good (I'm not a big apple juice/cider fan) and tasted like you were biting into an apple rather than just drinking apple juice. Anyhoo I was reading on how to make cider (which I don't plan on attempting) but can someone tell me why its ok for kids to drink apple cider if its actually slightly fermented? (I know the difference between sweet cider and hard cider but even the sweet kind has to ferment slightly). So it was fun, but…

I was thinking the other day about all the small kitchen appliances there are these days: Mixer Blender Toaster Coffee maker Toaster oven Crock Pot Bread Machine Rice cooker Waffle iron Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head that I own. Which ones do you have and do you like to have most of your appliances out on the counter where you can reach them or stored in a cabinet to keep the counters clear?

I love asparagus, but very rarely can I afford to buy it. Knowing this, my hubby was at work the yesterday, and apparently someone had brought in a HUGE amount of asparagus free for the taking. My hubby literally brought home about 5lbs. of it! (I wasn't kidding when I said they had a lot of it there and many others took some home as well) Anyway, we are having it for supper tonight and I'm trying to think of ways to be creative. Does anyone have any favorite recipes they would like to share? I've been trying to find a good recipe for cream of asparagus soup especially. I am looking forward to your responses, as I know we have some very good cooks on here!! :wvlf…

Does anyone have any good bean/rice recipes? My husband and I eat a lot of meat, every single dinner, and it gets quite expensive. I'm hoping to add a couple of bean dinners to the menu to help spice up our dinners and to help save some money. The only problem is I've never really made any bean dishes. Any recipes would be greatly appreciated :smile
