Songs From My Journey About one and a half years ago, I stumbled across a wonderful songwriter and poet named Deborah Bolack. The lyrics of her songs and the devotional book she put together have been such a blessing to me. The songs that she has recorded and her visitors can listen to on her blog have been beautiful and edifying. But this year she has blessed me more than I could have ever imagined - twice! She composed music for two of my songs (one in June, and one just a few weeks ago). I cannot read music, so had no clue how wonderful the music she made was - until I got to hear both songs played at the Gospel Mission where I work. My heart was touched and a long…

I just got the latest Casting Crowns cd today and the first song is called "What This World Needs." I've listened to just that song several times now because it's got really amazing lyrics. It's what I like about this group, they don't mince words. Here's the song on youtube: ****Moderater edited to remove music clip***** For those who don't like that kind of music, here are the lyrics: What this world needs Is not another one hit wonder with an axe to grind, Another two bit politician peddlin` lies, Another three ring circus society. What this world needs Is not another sign wavin` super saint that's better than you, Another ear pleasin` candy man afraid of …

This statement by RezPreacher brought to my mind another discussion I had with a former pastor (he went liberal, and I had to dis-invited him to my ordination). Anyway, the discussion went something like this: Missionaries from the western world force their native converts to sing Western hymns, like "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Because of that, the converts weren't experiencing the true joy of Christ, because no hymns were being written in their native music styles. So, not only were the new converts learning a new way of life, but also had to learn a new worship style. I thinkRick Warren teaches something like this, or at least my former pastor referred t…

I especially love verse 3... CHILDREN OF THE HEAVENLY FATHER Children of the heav?nly Father Safely in His bosom gather; Nestling bird nor star in Heaven Such a refuge e?er was given. God His own doth tend and nourish; In His holy courts they flourish; From all evil things He spares them; In His mighty arms He bears them. Neither life nor death shall ever From the Lord His children sever; Unto them His grace He showeth, And their sorrows all He knoweth. Though He giveth or He taketh, God His children ne?er forsaketh; His the loving purpose solely To preserve them pure and holy. Lo, their very hairs He numbers, And no daily care encumbers Them t…

Have faith in God 1) Have faith in God when your pathway is lonely, He sees and knows all the way you have trod; Never alone are the least of His children; Have faith in God, Have faith in God. Chorus: Have faith in God, He's on the throne; Have faith in God, He watcheth o'er His own; He cannot fail, He must prevail; Have faith in God, Have faith in God. 2) Have faith in God when your prayers are unanswered, Your earnest plea he will never forget; Wait on the Lord, trust His Word and be patient; Have faith in God he will answer yet. Chorus 3) Have faith in God in your pain and your sorrow,His heart is touched with your grief and despair; Cast all your cares and …

This is our little family band, posing on the front porch of my 3xgreat grandfather's log house. The house was removed by archaeologists, from it's original location in the piney woods to a museum in Panama City, Florida. I like to "bluegrassize" some of the old hymns and sprituals. We also do alot of Doyle Lawson's stuff and are starting to write some.

This question is for the people that think that Rock Music, Christian or secular is wrong. So, with that assumption, at what point is it sin? Is it when a person hears it, enjoys it, plays it, etc? Thanks a lot. PEP

Just a quick question: Does anyone know anything about the Gaithers later music. I know their music used to be very good (songs such as The King is Coming, one of my favorites, and There's Something about that Name). It seems like I've read or heard somewhere that they've gone contemporary, but I don't remember how I heard that or even if I confirmed that. Anyway, if anyone knows anything about them, please reply and let me know. Thanks, - Jim

As time goes bye, churches are opening up to adding drums and more to the worship. I brought this up once before, but I am open to drums and more, instruments. Maybe others jump on the bandwagon by now. Chances are not always good, but Hymnal only, we are loosing ground. Do I support Hymns, absolutely. But I am thinking of the future church worship, and where it is going. Trying to keep the youths in its churches.

They have a new CD out called "One More Mile"... I'm thinking about buying it soon.. I have almost all of their other CDs, so this one would just add to my collection. :cool http://music.johnmarshallfamily.com/omm I heard some of the samples, and it sounds like great music for young people/teens. It's got the John Marshall family singing with the Berean Baptist Youth, so you get some stuff that sounds like it came from a college choir. It's really neat. :smile

This song is done by a country gospel group. It is in reference to "gay" marriage...it has a good message. Be warned, though, for those who don't like it, it is definitely country. http://youtube.com/watch?v=Xzp0S3yO1QA

I was doing a search for an old tape I used to listen to when I was a kid, and I ran across this website. I'm not sure if you can buy the music there or what, but they have some neat old gospel music. The music I was looking for if anyone wants to do a search was a tape from years ago by the Back to the Bible Quartet. I don't know the name of the tape, but it had the song "Rejoice, Rejoice, my son is coming home again..." on it. Here's that site I found: http://www.sacred-music.org

Hello everyone here is a site with a huge amount of hymns played on a piano that you can download and listen to or sing along . They are all very well done and are available at no charge. Enjoy, Bro. Hugh http://www.touchet1611.org/CongregationalSong.html

Country music has always included gospel music. Here is an album of country gospel music. https://www.pandora.com/artist/various-artists/country-gospel-greats/ALZZzvqv5jv5jt6 And here is one of the most beautiful songs. It was a slave song included in a collection of songs and published in Slave Songs of the United States in 1867. Pretty much forgotten it was revived in the movie, "Oh,Brother, Where Art Thou?"
