Hey, I was pleased to find a conservative, fundamental message board, and especially one where people have a Biblical conservative view on music. I've gotten into an argument about CCM and Christian rock on another Christian message board and was wondering if some of you could give me some advice on what to say to these people. I do not believe that CCM honors God, but it seems all my arguments fall flat. Some of the main things people throw back at me are: How can you say that a specific music style is wrong, and People are getting saved through Christian rock concerts. I'd just like some advice on how to argue against CCM, and show these people from Scripture t…

I heard on the radio this morning that the David Crowder Band ("Christian") is playing in main stream clubs this year. How low can supposively Christian bands go to present the gospel.

If you sing special music or are involved in a choir, which part(s) do you sing?

(Just a quick note: I'm and evil Calvinistic Christian, so if my tone seems a little "off" I apologize) Okay, so I know that ya'll aren't into Christian music sounding like the World's music, right? Okay. So lets say that, suddenly, the World's musical tastes suddenly changed to the current "Christian" sound. Would you allow yourselves to listen to music that was "Rock" or "Metal", then? This is a serious question.

Hey yall, I currently play a lot of bluegrass music. Some of it is gospel some of it is not. The stuff that is not is generally benign...talking about tractors, mountains, hogs...etc. This music does not explicitly glorify the Lord, but it talks about the human experience such as life, love, leaving home, etc. Is it bad that I play this music? Should I play nothing but Gospel? These are just subtle doubts in my mind....

I was wondering whose music you all enjoy listening to he most. My all time favorite group is the Cathedrals. In fact, their Sympnohy of Praise project is my all time favorite recording.

Anyone have any luck finding good Christian Hymns that are just singing without instrumentals? Or maybe with piano or guitar? I have some luck but seems most have drums or don't really follow the hymnal music (as far as holding notes for a certain time and whatnot). I'm specifically looking for "Mansion Over a Hilltop" and "It Is Well With My Soul" but am hoping to find an album with multiple wholesome Christian Hymns. I plan on singing "Mansion Over a Hilltop" as a special at Church this weekend and just wondered if anyone had any tips for searching on iTunes. Thanks.

Are there hymns that you believe contain bad theology and should not be sung in church?

Besides the piano or organ.... what are appropriate instruments to have in church? I know the drums are out, but what about stringed instruments, brass etc.... the reason that I am asking is that the church that we are attending has an elderly man that plays the guitar with some of the songs and special music, and I just love it. Just wondered what your thoughts were?

I am not certain if this is the correct place to ask this question but since it is on music it seems like the best spot. If it is in the wrong spot the perhaps the moderators can move it to the correct spot. Do IFB (I know that there are others on the site) use mechanical instruments in worship service? I ask since I don't know. Most baptist that I know do use them, but I know there are those who don't. Thanks to those who can provide an answer.

I'm listening to a CD we were given for Christmas last year. It's done by Bronn Journey and his wife. Bronn plays the harp, and his wife accompanies him and/or sings at times. The CD we have is "The River is Wide" and is full of hymns gorgeously done. Their website is here: http://www.bronnjourney.com/index.html The site will automatically play music if your browser is set for that. Otherwise there should be a button you can click on to listen to some. It isn't the best quality sound in comparison the the CD, but you'll get the general idea.

Before I was saved, I listened to rock music, after I got saved I listened to "Christian rock music"/CCM, later I gave that all up. Right now, I do not listen to anything at home--just sing in church or sing a hymn to myself at home. I do like music, but am uncertain just where to draw the line. I went and read the bigger threads you have on CCM. I understand that rock, country, rap, and the like are not the type of music we should be listening to, but what about the finer details of music? Obviously, you can take a hymn and play it in a style that is NOT right. I do not have a musical background and I do not read music--how does one discern say, without just going …

Has anyone heard of the Outreach Quartet before? I have one of their albums, called Saved, Saved, Saved. You can listen to samples of their songs on the site. It's quite unique, I've never listening to a acapella group before, and to be honest I didn't notice they were acapella for a little while, as I listen to music a lot (basically if I'm on my PC I am listening to music) but I rarely pay a lot of attention to it. Very nice voices, and beautiful songs. My favorite by far is: What did He do* Anyone know of similar groups? -Alen *Only sample, goes for 30 seconds.
