Music in church 1 2 3

I think that a church ought to have traditional music . Yet I have been around others who say that a mix is fine so you can have the younger crowd involved. They also went on to say that at one time that the traditional was probably contemporary to some. I don't think so but I don't know how to say other wise. Any help?

What are the opinions of classical music? I'm thinking of Handel, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven.

How come we have no problem with most commercials that have drums but we cant have drums in the church? Praise Him with loud cymbals! Praise Him with clashing cymbals! Ps. 150 The only difference is in the type of noise - We are to make a "joyful" noise unto the Lord!

Is there a difference? Not all rock music lyrics promote sex drugs and rock and roll.

Hi everyone. I notice that most Fundamentalist Baptists are against rock and Christian rock. I can understand being against secular rock because it is often sinful but I don't understand why they are against Christian rock. Could someone please help me to understand this?

Bad Hymns? 1 2

I was just wondering if anyone would share what hymns they feel are unBiblical or otherwise bad because of who wrote it. In other words, are there any mainstream hymns that anyone here doesn't approve of and why?

If your church uses a hymnal, what one do you use? Who publishes it and what year was it published? Our church uses the American Broadman Hymnal published in 1957. I also enjoy music from the Baptist Hymnal.

Justin Martyr (139 A.D.), an early church Father "The use of [instrumental] music was not received in the Christian churches, as it was among the Jews, in their infant state, but only the use of plain song.... Simply singing is not agreeable to children [the aforementioned Jews], but singing with lifeless instruments and with dancing and clapping is. On this account the use of this kind of instruments and of others agreeable to children is removed from the songs of the churches, and there is left remaining simply singing." Tertullian (200 A.D.), an early church Father "Musical concerts with viol and lute belong to Apollo, to the Muses, to Minerva and Mercury who invent…

As time goes bye, churches are opening up to adding drums and more to the worship. I brought this up once before, but I am open to drums and more, instruments. Maybe others jump on the bandwagon by now. Chances are not always good, but Hymnal only, we are loosing ground. Do I support Hymns, absolutely. But I am thinking of the future church worship, and where it is going. Trying to keep the youths in its churches.

heavy metal 1 2

 This is how heavy metal makes me feel. I used to listen to it all the time. But I don't anymore and it is very oppresive to me now. The bakers at work like to play it top volume for hours and the boss says I am not allowed to say anything about it because "they have done it for years you can't change what they do now, thats not fair." But I felt suicidal and everything, not only that but it made me feel violent, and it hurts my ears to the point of giving me ear infections and it hurts my head and I can't hear properly for hours afterward. This is what happened to me today. Katy-Anne

In case you don't know, this is a song by CCM rock group Delirious? I don't understand why we are digging through the garbage of CCM in order to find music to sing. This is the first "real" CCM song Steve Pettit has put out and if they follow in the footsteps of WCBC, it only goes downhill from here. Here is the original:

My church has a strong conviction against CCM and worldly music. We use our hymn book during worship service, so most of the Christian songs I know is only what is found on our hymn book. I am just wondering if there is such a thing as Christian love songs or all songs should only be for the Saviour. If there is, can you tell me the title or can you post the lyrics? Lastly, if you are married what was your wedding song?.. I'm just curious. God Bless you all. Jeny

black spirituals 1 2
by Guest Guest- 25 replies

Are black spirituals ok? I mean I really like them, but I don't want to listen to them if they are wrong. Yesterday I did something really bad. I was at the shops and like I saw my friend and she said hi and moved on. I was in front of a music store and when she left it was playing Abba. Now, back when I was listening to rock n roll, I loved Abba. So when I heard it I...umm...went into the shop to hear the rest of the song. I came out with two CD's of these black spirituals. So yeah they were bought in a secular music shop. And I know I shouldn't have been in there because it always makes me struggle. And I am supposed to be saving my money really hard to get ba…

What's your belief of female music leaders? The article link below seems like it was written just to keep things with the times and not an article I necessarily agree with. So what's your beliefs on woman choir directors, woman leading congregationals and so forth? https://baptistnews.com/article/now-theres-a-movement-to-bar-women-as-worship-leaders-in-churches/

This is my 14 year old son, Jonathan, doing lead vocals, playing mandolin, rhythm guitar and standup bass (not all at the same time). My son, Josh is playing the dobro, our friend Jacob is playing the banjo and I'm backing up on tenor and baritone vocals. My wife has made a couple of CDs, many of the songs on them are songs she wrote. We're very conservative in our music, no rock, drums, etc. Here's a link to a song, I hope you like it. If you're interested in the CDs, PM me. Thanks. Melissa Schworer

Ok so I don't listen to a lot of CCM, but the stuff I do listen to is edifying. This morning I was listening to a new CD and God really spoke to me through one of the songs. People I know say that God CANNOT speak to you through ANY CCM song, but they are wrong because I KNOW God spoke to me through that song. So why do people stand around saying God can't when God did? I am not certain if this is the correct place to ask this question but since it is on music it seems like the best spot. If it is in the wrong spot the perhaps the moderators can move it to the correct spot. Do IFB (I know that there are others on the site) use mechanical instruments in worship service? I ask since I don't know. Most baptist that I know do use them, but I know there are those who don't. Thanks to those who can provide an answer.

Are there hymns that you believe contain bad theology and should not be sung in church?
