What do you guys think of Frank Garlock? I grew up with his music and our church still has his hymnal. Recently, I read an article that makes the case that Dr. Garlock mixes pagan New Age mysticism with the Bible to suport his viewpoints. It gave specific examples and scared me to death. Is Garlock teach the Bible or just his own opinions?

Before I was saved, I listened to rock music, after I got saved I listened to "Christian rock music"/CCM, later I gave that all up. Right now, I do not listen to anything at home--just sing in church or sing a hymn to myself at home. I do like music, but am uncertain just where to draw the line. I went and read the bigger threads you have on CCM. I understand that rock, country, rap, and the like are not the type of music we should be listening to, but what about the finer details of music? Obviously, you can take a hymn and play it in a style that is NOT right. I do not have a musical background and I do not read music--how does one discern say, without just going …

Should Christians listen to music loud? Do you think it could possibly harm their testimony? I listen to good solid Christian music loud, especially when I am driving. Sometimes it is to block the junk others are playing, other times it is merely loud because I am tired and sometimes depending on the song, (Morning trumpet is one) it sounds great loud. I am just wondering what others thought about this

There was a wedding recently in the church where I used to be the associate pastor. We left the church last summer over several issues including music. My family did not attend the wedding (although my wife and daughter were formally invited). I thought it wise not to allow them to go. My caution was based upon the type of music that was used while we were attending there. Several days after the wedding we were given a CD of the service. I was somewhat dumbfounded but not altogether surprised by the use of worldly music. In the year and a half that we were a part of this church, the pastor illustrated over and over again that he is a compromiser and that he does not kno…

Ok, title is obvious, so here's one of my favorite hymns. So Little Time By John R. Rice (1) So little time! The harvest will be over. Our reaping done, we reapers taken Home. Report our work to Jesus, Lord of harvest, And hope He'll smile and that He'll say, "Well done!" Chorus (2) Today we reap, or miss our golden harvest! Today is given us lost souls to win. Oh then to save some dear ones from the burning. Today we'll go to bring some sinner in. (3) How many times I should have strongly pleaded; How often did I feel to strictly warn. The Spirit moved, oh had I pled for Jesus! The grain is fallen, lost ones not reborn. …

Hi Guys, I was visiting at Baptist Church in this area. I had not been to this Baptist Church in some 20 years. and I must admit, I was shocked. When I first got saved, it was strictly Hymns and that was it. I was quite shocked when they were singing contemporary music. Folks, as an ex-pentecostal, of 20 years. I can tell you, they were singing the SAME songs of the Pentecostal Churches!!!!!! I was totally stunned! :? :freak: :Ticking Since when do Baptist's sing the same songs of the Apostate Church? (see 2 Timothy 3) Thanks be to the Lord, that the Church I am a member of, ISN'T singing those songs! We're sticking to the hymns! This link better explains what…

Come, Thou Fount Robert Robinson and John Wyeth 1 Come, Thou Fount of every blessing, Tune my heart to sing Thy grace; Streams of mercy, never ceasing, Call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, Sung by flaming tongues above; Praise the mount I'm fixed upon it Mount of Thy redeeming love. 2 Here I raise mine Ebenezer; Hither by Thy help I'm come; And I hope, by Thy good pleasure, Safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, Wandering from the fold of God; He, to rescue me from danger, Interposed His precious bl…

Besides the piano or organ.... what are appropriate instruments to have in church? I know the drums are out, but what about stringed instruments, brass etc.... the reason that I am asking is that the church that we are attending has an elderly man that plays the guitar with some of the songs and special music, and I just love it. Just wondered what your thoughts were?

Hey, I was pleased to find a conservative, fundamental message board, and especially one where people have a Biblical conservative view on music. I've gotten into an argument about CCM and Christian rock on another Christian message board and was wondering if some of you could give me some advice on what to say to these people. I do not believe that CCM honors God, but it seems all my arguments fall flat. Some of the main things people throw back at me are: How can you say that a specific music style is wrong, and People are getting saved through Christian rock concerts. I'd just like some advice on how to argue against CCM, and show these people from Scripture t…

I heard on the radio this morning that the David Crowder Band ("Christian") is playing in main stream clubs this year. How low can supposively Christian bands go to present the gospel.

Amy Grant is a complete hypocrite. She says that she's for God and sings songs about him. Then she goes and gets divorced and remarried and has shown no repentence or sorrow for this sin.

The use of CCM in IFB churches (whether in the CCM orignal format or a traditionalized rendition of it) has been thoroughly thrashed here. It is clear that most of us here are, generally speaking, against CCM to various degrees. I was reading more about the subject on David Cloud's site (via some of his RSS postings here) and one particular beef with it is the association(s) part of it (as has also been thoroughly debated on this forum). My intent is not to rehash either of those debates in this thread. Rather, I had a thought about the way CCM artists often take some of our more traditional hyms and put them to their version of music. If one of our beefs with us…

hey! k, this kinda came up in some of the other threads but i kinda wanted to see what your opinions are on contemporary music that is performed in church without the bass, drums, etc. I've noticed several fundamental Baptist churches that I've visited using contempory music but without the rhythm. While not necessarily wrong, is this a step in the wrong direction for IFB churches? While i don't mind original contemporary worship songs that were written by IFB people, it's kinda weird listening to music that started in New Evangelical and Pentacostal churches and were originally performed by artists in those churches even if it is minus the rhythm section. Should IFB chu…

We had two great old hymns today, Sinners Jesus will receive; Sound this word of grace to all Who the heavenly pathway leave, All who linger, all who fall. This can bring them back again Christ receiveth sinful men. Refrain Sing it o’er and over again; Christ receiveth sinful men; Make the message clear and plain: Christ receiveth sinful men. Shepherds seek their wandering sheep, O'er the mountains bleak and cold, Jesus such a watch doth keep O'er the lost ones of his fold, Seeking them o'er moor and fen, Christ receiveth sinful men. Refrain Sick and sorrowful and blind I with all my sins draw nigh; O my Saviour thou canst find Help for sinners …

Hi Everybody, I would be pleased to hear how you-all got involved in music and singing (if you are currently and actively involved in that). This idea came to me from Termite's entries in the thread, "Tone Death", wherein she described her experiences with the students she teaches. I thot it would make a discussion-worthy thread. I already gave my entry over there, so will just give a quick synopsis here. I was 18 at the time, and a very Godly Pastor's wife wanted to have a youth choir at the church our family went to. Very few of us young people knew how to sing (I was probably the worst), but she taught us to harmonize with the pitch given by the pi…

LO! He comes with clouds descending, once for favoured sinners slain; thousand thousand saints attending swell the triumph of His train: Hallelujah! God appears on earth to reign. *2 Every eye shall now behold Him robed in dreadful majesty; those who set at nought and sold Him, pierced and nailed Him to the tree, deeply wailing, shall the true Messiah see. *3 Every island, sea, and mountain, heaven and earth, shall flee away; all who hate Him must, confounded, hear the trump proclaim the day; come to judgment! come to judgment! come away! 4 Now redemption, long expected, see in solemn pomp appear! All His saints, by man rejected, now shall meet Him in the air: Halle…

Here's a track I was asked to make based on a short clip I made earlier. It's sort of a mix of Asian and orchestral music I guess. AFAIK, the way I have the percussion in there is OK, right? I'm not emphasizing the backbeat like rock does. But I still wanted to ask what you guys think of it. Is it good or not? (Personally, I'm quite sure it is good, but I wanna make sure.) http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInf ... ID=4511172

Just for the record, I am not trying to stir up a debate or trouble in any way. I have a very honest question that has been giving me trouble for quite some time. I have someone very close to me who thinks that listening to rock music is okay. It is a touchy subject around us because I do not like listening to it, especially for the sake of just listening to it. I have pretty strong convictions about listening to it. This person maintains that the songs are clean, and they do not listen to songs that are dirty. I have read some of the lyrics to some of the songs, and they are clean. I didn't see anything wrong with the words, even in the world view. Now I made …
