What is your criteria for judging another christian brother's worthiness of your esteem or respect? What is God's criteria for determining His children's worth? What should our criteria for that be? These questions have been swirling around my brain the past few days, and I'd love to see a discussion on them and maybe have them answered. If you're interested in reading a (rather long) blog entry that I wrote centering somewhat on these questions, feel free! In fact, it might help you to know where I'm coming from with these questions. Here's the blog entry: http://onlinebaptist.com/messageboards/blog.php?page=view&mode=blog&b=35

A recent Barna poll concerning the American "christian" populace at large says that we are rejecting traditional values as taught by the local church or any other church for that matter and we are putting only those doctrines we want on our plate. Below is an excerpt from the article and below that is the web page where the article can be read. "By a three to one margin (71% to 26%) adults noted that they are personally more likely to develop their own set of religious beliefs than to accept a comprehensive set of beliefs taught by a particular church. Although born again Christians were among the segments least likely to adopt the a la carte approach to beliefs, a co…

I noticed the Hebrew letters, שהם מנחם, in his email and when I called I was having a tough time understanding some of what he was saying; the bad connection wasn't helping either. At the end of the conversation he apologized for his accent and asked for my name. I asked his and where he was from and said he is Shoham from Israel. He says he wants my bottle baby lamb for a pet. We'll see. This is Brownie. His mother rejected him so he comes to get his bottle twice a day and whatever he can steal from his mother when she's at the feed trough.

Print Archaeology is typically built upon the evolutionary assumption that man evolved from a stone age to a bronze age to an iron age, each evolutionary ascent being accompanied by changes in culture and religion. Typically the iron age is said to have begun in about 1200 B.C. For example, Frederic Kenyon attributed the features of the Jordan Valley to vast terrestrial movements two million years ago, and William Albright claimed that “Homo sapiens” evolved artistic abilities sometime around 30,000 to 20,000 B.C. As we have seen, even “evangelicals” commit this heresy. Consider the following statements by Alfred Hoerth, former director of archaeology at Wheaton Colle…

I was researching sheep this morning and came across this.... http://confidentfaith.com/blog/the-problem-with-sheep-2/ One thing that jumped out at me was that he says that poor dumb "sheep" get "lost". But I think the sheep in Matthew, Luke and the Book of Jeremiah were right where they wanted to be. Understand that a sheep's natural home is the mountains and hills (Matthew 18, Luke 15, Jeremiah 50:6). But the Bible never points out the stupidity of sheep. On the contrary, the sheep's only "sin" is that it goes "astray". Also contrary to this article, sheep do run very fast, leap high in the air, use their heads to butt, in order to defend themselves. Some of mine, even…

Friday Church News Notes SOUTHERN BAPTIST PASTOR PRAISES THE SHACK (Friday Church News Notes, March 3, 2017, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - Last week we described the “back to the Southern Baptist Convention” movement among Independent Baptists in “Prominent BBFI Church Joins the Southern Baptist Convention,” Friday News, Feb. 17, 2017. Shortly after writing that piece, we were reminded of the heresies that are countenanced within the SBC. Wade Burleson, pastor of the Southern Baptist Emmanuel Baptist Church of Enid, Oklahoma, published a blog report a few days ago praising Paul Young and his heresy-filled book The Shack . Young has actu…

Numbers In The Bible - Day 57 - Turning Bitter Waters To Sweet Exodus 15:22-26 So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water. And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah. And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them, And said, If thou wilt diligentl…

Okay I just finished reading a book about Joni Eareckson Tada, the lady who was paralyzed a long time ago and then like 30 years ago she got married, etc, and the book is about her marriage. Good book. Anyway, she is the "John MacArthur" brand of Christianity, which I think all of us would agree is not the same "type" that we would consider ourselves. However I was struck throughout the book of how much more aware Joni was/is of God, how much He takes up in her mind...how much she prays with her husband, how much she lives her life for God, and wants to be in His will. Of course there were a few other things in there I disagreed with, like her huge para-churc…

I've heard two themes in preaching, but they seem to contradict each other. I've heard one theme that says that God is watching us as His children and He sees all our wrong doing and is displeased with us when we do wrong. It seem though that it would be dreary living if we're constantly feeling like God is displeased with us whenver we sin - like He's away up in Heaven waiting to pounce on us. Then another theme says that when God sees us as His children, He always sees only the righteousness of Jesus that is imputed on us. I know of a song that says something like "when He sees me, He sees the blood of the Lamb." So, how does God see us as His children?

The following is an article I've written on Church Discipline. I'll highlight the portions that deal with elders specifically. Church Discipline is covered in more than one passage in Scripture. It is only covered in a specific example in 1 Corinthians. Church discipline is one of the least practiced commands of Christ in the church today. As a general rule, many churches have abandoned the practice either for fear of being sued, or because they don?t want to offend others. However, this was a command instituted by Christ. The churches that still practice the discipline of erring believers face ridicule from those who are loath to practice such a thing. What precisel…

We must recognize the fire baptism before we can truly repent of our vices. We must fear the Lord's correction!

When our children were little, it was always a delight to hear them say those precious, cute little things. Our little daughter was out in the garden with her mother one day and brought her a little bug. My wife said "that's a ladybug". My daughter left and returned a few minutes later with another bug and exclaimed "look Mama...a MAN BUG!". When it came to the animals on our farm, it was the kids who did the naming. Sometimes the names didn't make any sense to my wife nor myself but, whatever they named it, that was it. It was a pleasure to let them name them. A black cow with a "V" shaped mark on her forehead was named "Vicky" But then, we had a beagle named "Wax"\ and …

I'm posting this in this members only forum so it's not so public... I'm feeling a little "private." My heart is extremely burdened for the churches of this country. I just received a letter from our missionaries to the Philippines (Ed and Joyce Butler) and a picture was enclosed. It shows the 10th Anniversary Service of the Bajada Bible Baptist Church in Davao City. There was a total attendance of 293. The picture shows about 120 people. What strikes me is this: As I look at the picture I see very well dressed people. Almost all ladies look like ladies. Men look like men, most have shirt and ties. The church is clean and neat and bright. More importantly... I see…

She said she “loved” The Shack and couldn’t understand why it had so many critics on the Internet. She was especially perplexed by the number of “negative” […] View the full article

Why don't we meet every day of the week? In Acts 2:46& 47 says "And they, continuing DAILY with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, (then ver47) Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added TO THE CHURCH DAILY such as should be saved." Really read from verse 41 to the end...why aren't we like that? and should we?
