I've always been taught that Methuselah's name meant something like "when he dies, it shall come", and that this refers to the flood. That may be so; Methuselah did die the year the flood came so there has to be a connection. But look what I "found". Spear Hebrew "methuselah = "man of the dart" According to Strong's, Methuselah means "man of the dart", so I'm thinking....what does that have to do with the flood? I believe a "dart" is the same as a spear correct? http://cf.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexi ... ongs=04968 Emission Greek "Mathusala" = "when he dies, there shall be an emission". Now this comes closer but does not tell us WHAT the emission was does it? And…

Paul: Now I beseech you, brethren, mark [ skopeō ] them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. Romans 16:17 Paul: Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark [ skopeō ] them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample. Philemon 3:17 skopeō - to look at, observe, contemplate [as in to "scope out", observe] Note: skopeō does not mean vile personal, or verbally abusive attacks and name-calling Luke 6:14b "out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks."

First, a disclaimer: I don't know who the narrator is and I don't agree with the Bible versions he is using. I also don't know anything about Steven Furtik either. But what caught my interest was everything after the 3:40 mark. https://fb.watch/gZYqXC14cW/ A few things I've discovered in my own studies: Jephthah most likely treated his daughter in line with the provision of the "singular vow" given in Leviticus 27. Barak, in the Book of Judges, was not some wimpy coward who needed a woman to protect him, but instead wanted Deborah to go along because he wanted the presence of God in the battle, didn't care that he would receive no glory for the battle, a…

That was posted on facebook by a dear friend of mine. Actually, no, it wasn't offensive at all. You're in a church setting, saying things you know most of your hearers agree with and everybody clapped at the end. But I can tell you how to make it offensive. Define the "nuclear family" with the man as the "head", like the King James does, and by all means relate his roles as "loving his wife", "giving himself" and "providing" like the King James does. Then don't stop short like you just did. Define the wife as being "subject" and her role as "submitting" and "obeying". I wonder of they would clap for you then? And just so everyone knows, I treasure my Wife and do…

"For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings." (Hosea 6:6) We live by principle, but principle has no love--it feels no emotion. Too often we serve in a rOBotic manner; we serve our Lord, yes, but as a machine we trample over his beloved in the name of doing right! The outward acts of worship are worthless unless supported by the inward acts of love. "Mercy, and not sacrifice"; "Knowledge of God more than burnt offerings." Can you see that the Lord desires our heart-felt service as well as our traditional outward service? Be careful that you do not keep the mere letter of the law, and lack the grace that it contains;…

"I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness" (Hosea 9:10) As Israel was, so are we. Israel was as refreshing as "grapes in the wilderness"; a life-sustaining joy to the weary traveler, and so are we in the Lord. The Lord has taken great delight in His people, and yet we turn to other gods, and seek after self gratification. We are no longer "grapes in the wilderness" but thorns and thistles to hinder the wayfarer, and a reproach to Him Who sought us out. The beginning was good, but the end became rotten; Grapes left in the wilderness soon fade, and rot away, as a man left to himself; the grapes are there, but they must be found before they become a help to the…

"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge:" (Hosea 4:6) Wisdom reveals to us the real knowledge of God; Proverbs 4:6 says: "For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding." The knowledge of God comes only from Him revealing Himself to us, and us seeing Him as He is. The question is asked then, "What of those who have never heard of God?" They are destroyed for "lack of knowledge." But wait - it says "My people" are destroyed - that implies that God is speaking about Christians! God's people (their lives) are often destroyed for their lack of biblical knowledge. Though the verse referred more directly to Israel, we too, t…

"Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart". (Hosea 4:11) Our hearts, as Christians, belong to the Lord. Our attention, and allegiance belong to Him, and we must be careful to guard these precious things, and never allow ourselves to be given over to lusts and wine. Once we have developed a "taste" for wine, and began to "play the whore" against our God, our hearts turn to other things. Anything that removes us from our natural state is evil; it is controlling and wicked, and will eventually destroy us. A helpful anagram is taught to our children, but it is also important to adults: We need to be alert, and watch for the subtle ruses of Satan; Some t…

"For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind:" (Hosea 8:7) Often our works for the Lord are as the wind--they dissipate as quickly, and are not tangible or lasting. They blow through suddenly, as a gust of wind, and then disappear into OBlivion. Sowing the wind is grasping at straws; it is nothing; we can never put our hands on it, and make good use of it in our every day lives. Further, we will always reap what is sown, it is a fact of nature, and a law of God. If we sow nothingness, we will reap the same; if we sow the seed of righteousness, we will also reap righteousness. Often, the reaping is more severe than the sowing! Such is the …

Preachers, Next Sunday is Sanctity of Life Sunday to mark the anniversary of Roe v Wade. Any suggestions as how to handle the abortion topic? I know one female member of my church had an abortion several years before she came to know Christ. Should I be "sensitive" to her by toning down the message a little bit, or should I just go ahead and preach like I normally would? The reason I ask is because abortion has such an impact on the recipients, different than someone who has lied or stolen or committed other sins. Even though her sin has been wiped away, the guilt may still be there. Am I making sense? Mitch

How far do we have to go in "showing deference"? Was talking about it last night with people who come to my house quite often. Last night I was in their house and an argument arose. I told them that I play by their rules in their house out of respect for them, but that they also made me feel like I had to play by their rules in my house also because I'll never hear the end of it if I don't. My husband told me I don't have to do things their way, but last night when it was raised he said that I do. They have all be saved longer than me but I have to "show deference" to them on EVERY issue because they will be "offended"??? Please give me some Biblical insight on this…

"Psalm 82:6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High." "John 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?" I would like to hear some sermons on this, I believe I have a fair understanding of these passages, but I don't think I have ever heard a sermon on them. They are one of those spots that tends to be quickly read and then skipped over. That is a shame because I think a really good ser…

If we go solely on the scriptures and not on extra-biblical sources we see: ANGELS NEVER WERE SONS Hebrews Chapter 1 makes it clear that the angels at no time were called sons. Hebrews 1:5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? Hebrews 1:13 But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? 14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? Only the sons are heirs to salvation. Angels minister to the heirs but are not sons the…

Acts 13:33 "This day have I begotten thee." All bible versions do NOT teach the same things. Important doctrines are seriously affected, not only by the different texts used, but also by the ways in which the same texts are translated. Such a case is found in Acts 13:33. The King James Bible reads, "God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus AGAIN; as it is written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, THIS DAY HAVE I BEGOTTEN THEE." This verse, as it stands in the KJB, clearly refers to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, and God the Father "begetting" Him from the dead. The versions that read as the KJB,

?I have said, Ye are gods...But ye shall die like men? - Psalm 82:6-7 ?Thou shalt not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of thy people.? - Exodus 22:28 ?he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came? - John 10:35 The true meaning of all three verses as found in the King James Bible is that the word ?gods? refers to earthly men who were given the divinely appointed office of judges who were to administer God?s laws to the common people. We see this idea from the very beginning when God appears to Moses and sends him as a lawgiver unto Israel. ?And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophe…

Proverbs 15:1 says A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. But I have read where Jesus called the Pharisees/scribes things like "fools", "whited sepulchres", "hypocrites" and a "generation of vipers". Now I seriously doubt that Jesus let it get into an arguing match but, I think this pastor was initially right in telling this policeman what he was. And the cop confirmed it. I just wish the pastor hadn't argued and that he stood his ground instead of running. What say ye? https://www.facebook.com/reel/1401798970766981
