If I may, I would like to request the guidance of others on this Forum regarding the issue of gender-specific dress. A few years ago, when I read Deuteronomy 22:5, “The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God” I took that instruction to heart and stopped wearing trousers. Occasionally, I come across women (usually women from my place of employment but this would also happen at the Southern Baptist Church I used to attend) who ask me why I never wear pants but only long skirts and dresses. I would like for this to be a civil discussion. The problem is that an IFB can mean many sort of things. For example, this website is and mostly IFB, but some say we are too IFB while other state we are not IFB enough. Where in your mind should Online Baptist/We draw the line for IFB?

I have seen a disturbing trend on this board and also in "real life". I hope everyone will understand my post as not being written in anger or meanness, but out of genuine concern. My biggest concern has been seeing this trend (which I will explain) in pastors and others in full time ministry. Our main complaint of neoevangelicism is the fact that they often change their beliefs or way of doing things in order to attract/keep the most people. I'm going to go out on a limb here, and probably get shot in the process. LOL. But I was thinking about different Christians and such, and there are some Christian ladies that totally "preach" if I can say it that way, absolute submission to their husbands to the exclusion of submitting to any other authority. Here is a scripture where Jesus is speaking: Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come [again] unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. (John 14:28) Clearly Jesus speaks that his Father is greater. Therefor he can't be compared to Jehovah, can he? Can someone explain me this question: is Jesus inferior to his Father on earth only, or in heaven also?

The question that I would like to raise is whether or not it is considered sinful for Christian women to wear pants, and why that is the case. The controversy within this community regarding women's apparel has manifested itself countless of times whether it be in small local churches, such as my own, or large scale conventions and conferences where the attire of an individual, typically a woman's, is criticized or condemned. Okay Bible Scholars, Preachers and laymen alike, the question is simple - what is sin? I learned from the Bible that sin is the transgression of the law and all unrighteousness is sin. Now I am interested in learning what everyone elses' opinion is regarding what SIN is, what kinds of things are sin or are not sin, etc. I believe that too many preachers are way too soft on sin - and tend to sugar coat the Truth. All of this sugar is spoiling the congregations and when they found out that the Truth isn't sweet, they get real upset. I will not post this in the general forum, because I want to make this specific to the IFB community.

I want to try to bring up this subject without addressing specific issues if possible. In God's Word it basically says that even though God specifically says its okay to eat meat, that some "weaker brethren" will still prefer to avoid it, and that that's okay too. What I find, though, is when we get on the topic of standards/seperation, that some will say that its the "weaker bretheren" that have the stronger standards. It does not, however, make sense to me that the closer we get to God, the "looser" we become in matters of worldly seperation. When Jesus was teaching His followers, so many times the people totally just didn't get His meanings, and many times He had to explain things to His disciples even because it was over their heads too. And i don't blame them because some of what He taught was very confusing. Do you ever wonder if maybe we are still misunderstanding some of His teachings? I've known many IFBs who were against going to the beach (during swimming season--summer) because of the way men and women dress. However, I have also known many IFBs who will enjoy summertime at the beach by swimming and such. Is it ok to go to the beach if you are dressing modestly? Or is it not appropriate, because even if you are dressed modestly, you are putting yourself in a situation to surround yourself by many who are not?
