I know there are differences of opinions on this subject so let's not lose fellowship over this. This is just my own work through the Bible. How Old is the Earth? In order to get a true Idea of how old the Earth is we must compare spiritual things with spiritual. God’s word shows us a creation of the earth where the morning stars sang at it’s creation. Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? Now this would put the creation of Angelic beings like arch-angels, angles, cherubims, seraphim and cherubs before the earth’s creation. There are some who puts the creation of these during the six days work of God which is…

In 1 Timothy 2:9-10 it says 9In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. I looked up the word apparel and it means a long flowing robe. I know that in bible times men also wore robes or skirts. In Roman History it wasn't until about 300 AD that men wore trousers. The first mention of trousers was a barbarian tribe invading the Roman Empire. I also know that the priests wore trousers as undergarments in the old testament. My question is, why if women have to wear skirts or dres…

We have several threads and a lot of opinions posted right now about divorce. So, here's a very touchy but relevant question. How many here will state that their marriage, or future marriage, is or will be Biblical? Remember, to become one flesh - as the Bible means it, as I take it, you and the spouse must be a virgin (at the very least the woman must be - ladies I say this because many men in the OT had many wives, but you never see a Biblical woman with more than one husband - in fact the original OT meaning of adultery was sex between a married woman and a man not her husband) . You became one flesh with the first person you have sex with, which is why we are tol…

On any given Sunday, there will be Pastor’s who will stand behind the pulpit and will preach a well-known message out of the 3rd Chapter of the last book of the Old Testament, Malachi. “Will a man ROB GOD?,” will boom through the air with emphasis on ‘rob God.’ Many preacher’s will put the emphasis on ‘rob God’ to instill an automatic fear into the very minds of the hearer. It causes the automatic cringing of the people the preacher wants to put in a spirit of condemnation. “Yet YOU HAVE ROBBED ME. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for YE HAVE ROBBED ME, even this whole nation.” Every single believer in the…

Hi, I'm an independent fundamental Baptist, and I'm new to this site. I was reading through some topics and it seems there is a lot of confusion on the term "repent." Sometimes, after hearing a phrase over and over, we tend to just "believe" that it must be true because we've heard it so often. Such is the case with the term "repent of your sins" or "turn from your sins" when it references salvation. No where in the Bible does it say to "repent of your sins" for salvation. The word repent means "to turn" or "to change one's mind" and always means in the opposite direction / choice. For example, Exod 32:14 "And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought…

Brethren, We are currently studying the prophecies of the Old Testament that give us detailed information concerning the 1000 Year Reign of Christ, the Millenium, as depicted in Revelation 20:4-7. All of your comments, thoughts, and questions are welcomed and appreciated. We will be studying 19 passages in the Old Testament that correlate with Revelation 20:4-7. These 19 passages (or lessons), are listed in my September 13, 2015 post in this thread. Each passage is considered one lesson for this study. God bless all of you. Alan September 7, 2016 update Salyan, Thank you for the break on the Revelation chapter 19-22 study. We do appre…

Most of the youth at my church are huge fans of John Piper and there's going to be a conference with him at my church this week. I wanted to check this guy out, but I missed the registration (and it costs $30 btw, and no live streaming for those who didn't pay and come), so I want to know what you guys know about him and can say about him. I'm a little wary of the fact that he's like a celebrity at our church, so I dunno. Other than him being a Calvinist, what else is good or bad about his teachings and him himself?

[MOD NOTE: This is a split from the traditions thread.]
Ok, well I'm not gonna go into the whole "Ruckman" discussion right now because it's not necessary (that horse has been beaten lots of times on other threads... and almost everyone here already has an opinion on that subject anyway), but I see a big problem here. People automatically assume that all "Ruckmanites" have some kind of ungodly attitude against people who disagree. To tell you the truth, we as Christians can get an attitude toward someone who disagrees with us on anything.. it's not just the "Ruckmanite" crowd. In any circle of true Christians, you'll…

From Wikipedia: The word culottes is of French language origin, and is the diminutive form of the word "cul," which means "backside," from the Latin "culus." Historically, the word "culottes" has always referred to the knee-breeches commonly worn by gentlemen of the European upper-classes from the late Middle Ages or Renaissance through the early 19th century. Culottes were normally closed and fastened about the leg, to the knee, by either buttons, a strap and buckle, or by a draw-string. During the French Revolution (late 18th century), the working-class revolutionaries were known as the "sans-culottes" (literally, "without culottes"), and derived their name from their …

This is a question I get asked ALL the time when knocking on doors...... My current answer is I'm a Biblicist in which they usually say that was not one of the answers, and I say they did not give me enough choices. Then we get into the Bible. My question is how do you answer this question?

My fellow Christians, Recently I had a debate of sorts with a satanist woman who insisted that she was a Christian. That despite disrespectfully talking to a man. What's more, she and her crowd were adamant in rejecting 1 Tim 2:15, getting upset and rejectionist regarding the reality of her going to hell. How do you deal with such heathens? How do you minister to them? In the blood of the Lamb, Brother Thomas

Why are you King James only? or if you aren't why not? I found that many people from both sides of the debate are ignorant about a lot of things, many often parrot what they have heard from others, and many have not done critical thinking on these issues. I would say that my main reasons is that I absolutely do not believe that the textual theories of Wescott and Hort are valid, and I believe the critical text is based on minority manuscripts because of the cultic following and unquestioning loyalty to their textual theories (Oldest and Best Manuscripts blah blah blah). on the flip side I have seen many King James Only people with some pretty lacking defenses …

First, I'll have to explain where I'm coming from on this. As many on this forum know, I grew up in an extremely Arminianistic environment. From a young age though (around 14), I got interested in IFB theology because it seemed more Biblical to me than the ECB (Evangelical Christian Baptist) theology I was taught which is actually rather diverse and sometimes contradictory. Though there are a few high profile ECBs who are Calvinistic, for the most part, ECBs are Arminianistic. In any case, I don't care for any label, whether it be Calvinist, Baptist, IFB, ECB, whatever; my main pursuit is the truth. After much research, I've come to the conclusion that Calvinism is very l…

Im starting this thread because I can!!!! :lol Hmmm I sound like someone else... just kidding. Serously, has anyone ever seen Flywheel or Facing the Giants? There is a new one coming out by the same folks called Fireproof. Do you all have any input on these? I liked them. They were clean and nice to watch as a family not worrying about the next scene. :2cents What say you?

In response to a request from the now 20-page John Piper thread, I thought we'd move some of the 'free-will vs predestination' discussion here. Tons of stuff were flying around, but one key verse that a number of people were interested in discussing was 2 Thessalonians 2:13: That will be the focus of this thread. I didn't have time to bring over any posts from either side of the discussion, so if anyone feels like doing that please do. It would also be helpful to have a list of the verses cited by each side. I made a list of the 'predestination side during the last thread: 2 Thessalonians 2:13 and 1 Corinthians 1:26-29; as well as 1 Thessalonians 1:4; Acts 13:48;…

Sort of interested in hearing what everyone's thought is on this topic. For the record, I am NOT a BB'er, but I am interested in hearing their perspective. Any of you out there?
