Journey between Joppa and Caesarea

I'm trying to figure travel time from Caesarea to Joppa to Caesarea in Acts 10. Day 1 Acts 10:3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius. Acts 10:8 And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa. Day 2 Acts 10:9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour: ------------------------------------------------------------------- How would servants and a soldier travel, by foot, by beast, by cart? I can

BIBLE COMMENTARIES June 16, 2004 (David Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061, 866-295-4143, fbns@wayoflife.org; for instructions about subscribing and unsubscribing or changing addresses, see the information paragraph at the end of the article) - The following is excerpted from the Advanced Bible Studies Course "How to Study the Bible," available in print, VHS, and DVD formats from Way of Life Literature: On several occasions, I have heard preachers condemn commentaries. One year when I was a young Christian, in fact, I determined to read and study the Bible alone and to forgo consulting any comment…

We all are well aware that on May 5th 2011 the KJV1611 turns 400 years old. The purpose of this thread is to see if we can come up with 1611 reasons why we love the KJV. Rules are: 1) Members can post as many times as they like, but only one "reason" per post. 2) No other posts in this thread but reasons why you love the KJV. Start a new topic for discussions. 3) We need to come up with 1,611 reasons before May 5th 2011.

Whenever the three days and three nights of Matthew 12:40 is brought up in a "discussion" with 6th day crucifixion folks, they frequently argue that it is a Jewish idiom for counting any part of a day as a whole day. I wonder if anyone has documentation that shows an example from the first century or before regarding a period of time that is said to consist of a specific number of days as well as a specific number of nights where the period of time absolutey doesn't/can't include at least a part of each one of the specific number of days and at least a part of each one of the specific number of nights?

I am interested in getting a KJV Study Bible and wanted to know if anyone had any recommendations? The only KJV Study Bible I've looked at before is a Scofield one that talks about dispensations (I'm not sure what those are or if they are correct). I want to make sure I get one that is biblically sound. Thanks!

The Inerrancy of Scripture - are you a Bible believer or a Bible agnostic? It is a fact that most professing Christians today do not believe in an inerrant Bible nor in the inerrancy of Scripture in any language. I have put together an rather extensive article with various quotes and polls from present day Evangelicals which prove that this is the present state of Christianity all over the world. You may see it here if you wish. It is called ?The Bible is NOT the inspired and inerrant word of God.? http://www.geocities.com/brandplucked/NoInerrant.html I have been in the Bible version discussion now for several years at many different Christian internet forums. During…

Has anyone heard of it? I read up on it a while ago, and it seemed interesting, and would be much more readable. Here is a link. Reading up on it again in a Wikipedia article, I found out some interesting changes they have made, besides putting the text in paragraphs, just want to see your thoughts on this: *Divides the text into paragraphs (and poetic line-divisions for poetic portions like the Psalms); *Introduces modern spelling in preference to that of the 18th century--"assuaged" rather than "asswaged," "music" rather than "musick," "show" instead of "shew," etc.; *Adds quotation marks for dialogue and words indicated as spoken in the Bible text; *Restores…

What are your thoughts on the Ryrie Study Bible? I have been using the Thompson Chain-Reference Bible to gain more understanding of God's Word, but am looking for some more tools to do so. In one of the emails from Brother Cloud, he mentioned the Ryrie. Of course, I would be looking for the KJV version of it.

Does anybody know about the New Scofield Study Bible (1967)? I have one, but I also have the 1917 Old Scofield Study Bible. Been trying to figure out what is "new" in the 1967 edition. I see it has a larger concordance and more maps and study helps, but is it different in the notes of the 1917 edition? Of course, I have the KJV--but the New Scofield comes in the NIV and NASB too. Were C.I.Scofield's notes changed?

I know there are lots of ideas on this....I personally thought that Moses wrote it (figuring since God gave him the revelation of the Creation, He probably also revealed to him the conversation between Satan and God in Heaven in Job). But today I was reading in chapter 12 and Elihu actually speaks in first person (like a narrator) in verses 16, 17. Is it possible he could have written it? God never does rebuke him like He does the other three at the end of the book. Any ideas?

I am at my wits end here. I can not tell you how many King James Bibles I have, and the reason I have so many...errors. I keep finding errors, with typos or word replacements. When I find one error, I push my Bible to the side, and begin my quest for another publisher. I have tried Holman, Hendricks, Scofield, Cambridge, Zondervan and Tyndale publishers, and always find some little quirk. I am beginning to abondan the idea of authenticity, am seriously thinking of switching to an ESV and starting all over again.

A poster on another forum, the topic of which was questioning the authenticity of the last 12 verses in the book of Mark, wrote that it doesn't really matter because there is no doctrinal teaching in Mark 16:9-20 that cannot be proved elsewhere in agreed Scripture. I made the mistake of sticking my nose into the discussion by pointing out that actually there is a statement in verse 9, as the KJV and similar versions have it, which is used for a doctrinal teaching that is to be found nowhere else in Scripture. As the KJV and similar versions translate it, it is the only place that puts the resurrection on the first day of the week. I then suggested that whenever the d…

Is the Geneva Bible an accurate translation? As far as I know, I've never actually seen or read a Geneva Bible. For some reason, I am seeing the Geneva Bible advertised and talked about a lot. One advetisement said the Geneva Bible was "the Bible of the Reformation." Another ad stated the Geneva Bible was the Bible of the American colonists. Another ad mentioned the Geneva Bible was the Bible of the Puritans. Any enlightenment on this issue would be most appreciated. Thank you!

http://www.raidersnewsnetwork.com/edito ... ature=5413 Why does the KJV translate the Hebrew "nephilim" as "giants". According to the above column, it's because the translators didn't know any better, or lacked the appropriate scholarship because of the time. Of course I don't buy any of it, but I am curious as to why the KJV uses the translation it does.

As we have seen in some other threads, Les teaches two gospels, (grace vs kingdom or gentile vs jew) we know there is only one. Also we have learned he teaches two creations. Now we find out the King James Version is wrong and Adam gave up a gonad to create Woman. Keep in the back of your mind Les teaches this on TV and if you disagree with his ideas on the verses you are not "rightly dividing" the scriptures. (right in my own eyes dividing) We believe the Bible, it says rib so we believe rib. Nothing fancy, nothing added to scriptures. Its sad to see Les who knows the scriptures so well not being satisfied and adding leaven. This could be anyone of us so bewar…

I was wondering what you know about them and why they aren't considered canocial? [quote] The Book of Enoch, like the Book of Daniel, was written originally in Aramaic and partly Hebrew. No copy of the original language of either is known to be in existence. The manuscript upon which this translation was made was found in Ethiopia in 1768, by the Scotsman, James Bruce. Enoch is a precious manuscript which not only sheds much light on the Bible, but also was itself in the Bible for five centuries. When the Bible was being canonized, scholars and church officials debated as to whether or not certain gospels, epistles and apocalypses should be included. For instance, …

The Gospel of the Kingdom By Philip Mauro Chapter II THE "SEVEN DISPENSATIONS" VIEWED IN THE LIGHT OF SCRIPTURE LET us at this point inquire what, if any, support the Bible lends to the basic idea of modern dispensationalism, namely, that God has divided all time (past and present) into seven distinct and clearly distinguishable "dispensations"; and that in each of those "dispensations" he deals with mankind upon a special plan and upon peculiar principles that differ from those of all the others. WHAT IS A DISPENSATION? And first, as regards the meaning of the word itself, it is easily to be seen, that the biblical meaning thereof is radically different from …
