Ezra 6:15 And this house was finished on the third day of the month Adar, which was in the sixth year of the reign of Darius the king. Ezra 7:1 Now after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah, Ezra 7:7 And he came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king. According to the commonly taught chronology, there are more than 80 years between chapters six and seven. Can this be so?

My apologies up front for any aggravation or heartache this question poses, as it seems to evoke pretty passionate responses when brought up, but the only way for me to learn is to ask. If Paul intended for "The husband of one wife" to mean never have been divorced, would that include a divorce before a man was saved? God tells us in Hebrews 8:12, Isaiah 43:25 and Psalm 103:11-12 that He not only forgives, but that He will also forget our transgressions when we turn to Him. One gentleman told me that sin has consequences (such as unwed pregnancy or drunk driving, etc), which I agree with, but the ones he listed are societal consequences for our sin a…

Genesis 6: 1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they werefair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 3And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. 4There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. 5And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was…

- Hello; and welcome to the very first book of the Bible. As of today's date, I'm 74 years old; and an on-going student of the Bible since 1968 via sermons, seminars, lectures, Sunday school classes, radio Bible programs, and various authors of a number of Bible-related books. Fifty-plus years of Bible under my belt hasn't made me an authority; but they've at least made me competent enough to compose a home-spun journey thru Genesis; practically verse by verse from the origin of the cosmos to Joseph's burial in Egypt. I've experienced varying degrees of success with this particular topic. On some forums, it's attracted literally thousands of v…

So i am pretty sure it is from my upbringing in the Baptist faith but just in case your thought on Jesus the Only Begotten Son of God; would be helpful. My understanding is Jesus became the Only Begotten Son at His First Coming. But I know many believe Jesus has been the Son before time began; eternal Sonship which I find to be beyond my understanding. Apreciate any thoughts.

- The Four Spiritual Laws is the title of an outreach booklet authored in 1952 by Campus Crusade for Christ founder Dr. Bill Bright. The information contained therein is okay as far as it goes; but not an adequate code of conduct for new Christians just starting out and wondering what's expected of them. Follow me down the rabbit hole and I'll show you; day by day, and little by little. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Acts 15:20a . . Abstain from pollutions of idols Here's the text of a common Christian prayer. "Bless us, Oh Lord, and these thy gifts which we are about to receive from t…

- I frequently encounter people online who are interested in reading some of the Bible but don't know where to begin. Well; I suggest the little books of Ruth and Esther. They're brief and they're entertaining. And afterwards; maybe just enough chapters of Matthew and Luke to get a first-hand look at the Christmas story. For some people: that's more than enough Bible to satisfy their curiosity. Q: Where can I get a Bible? A: Bibles can be purchased at any well-stocked book store like Barnes & Noble. Christian book stores are another source and can usually be found listed in the Yellow Pages along with regular types …

I'm not sure if this is the right place, or if it has been discussed before but here goes... I read recently that one can read the Bible through, at moderate reading speed, in 80 hours. Therefore, half hour spent daily just reading it systematically would get one through it in 160 days. However, I wonder if it is wise to read it through from Genesis to Revelation as it means that one doesn't come to the NT for some time. What do y'all think?

As we have seen in some other threads, Les teaches two gospels, (grace vs kingdom or gentile vs jew) we know there is only one. Also we have learned he teaches two creations. Now we find out the King James Version is wrong and Adam gave up a gonad to create Woman. Keep in the back of your mind Les teaches this on TV and if you disagree with his ideas on the verses you are not "rightly dividing" the scriptures. (right in my own eyes dividing) We believe the Bible, it says rib so we believe rib. Nothing fancy, nothing added to scriptures. Its sad to see Les who knows the scriptures so well not being satisfied and adding leaven. This could be anyone of us so bewar…

http://www.baptistpillar.com/article_609a.html "And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all." Gen. 14:18-20. This text gives the first record of tithing, and it was some four hundred years before the giving of the Law of Moses, for Abraham lived over four hundred years before Moses, Gal. 3:16-17. However, nothing is said in the Genesis text to show that this was a new thing even in Abraham's day…

Journey between Joppa and Caesarea

I'm trying to figure travel time from Caesarea to Joppa to Caesarea in Acts 10. Day 1 Acts 10:3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius. Acts 10:8 And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa. Day 2 Acts 10:9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour: ------------------------------------------------------------------- How would servants and a soldier travel, by foot, by beast, by cart? I can

¶ Simon Peter sayd vnto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Iesus answered him, Whither I goe, thou canst not follow me now: but thou shalt follow me afterwards. Uerily, verily I say vnto thee, whē thou wast yong, thou girdedst thy selfe, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carie thee whither thou wouldest not. 19 This spake hee, signifying by what death he should glorifie God. And when he had spoken this, he sayth vnto him, Follow me. 1611 King James Bible Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me…

I started this topic in response to one of the same topic, of when the church began. It had a lot of replies and instead of reading them all and replying with a large response or multiple comments I decided to use my time to write a study on this subject as im still new here and would like to gain more fellowship. That said, pardon me if these things im bringing up have been covered / answered. Still its good to revisit the doctrines of the Bible and understand where each of us believers are coming from and exhort one another, or correct error in meekness. ( James 3:13 ). First, I've held the view for a while that the church began at Pentecost, when the disciples wer…

Sometimes I have reservations about posting something which just occurred to me from daily Bible, during prayer, or from other Christian literature. God's disclosure to me I imagine is old hat to many of my brothers and sisters. Well God gave me the courage and I started typing (another arduous process for me). So, here it is a thread for the less than scholarly, less than immense, less than a doctrinal debate. Just a place to share and validate 1 John 4:1 those little whispers God gives to all of us as we actively and earnestly seek him. I'll start it off as an example and others may have their own to post. I was reading in Genesis 3 today. In particular, I was…

John 3 Verses 1 and 2 1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 1. “a ruler of the Jews” Most of us know that either Nicodemus was part of the Sanhedrin, or possibly a temple priest, and/or at the very least a well to do and respected member of the Pharisees. 2. “we know that thou art a teacher come from God” I had not noticed this part of verse 2 in reading John 3 before. Particularly the “we know” of this verse. I looked at a couple of c…

Did Abram marry Hagar? Genesis 16:3 And Sarai Abram's wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife. Genesis 21:10 Wherefore she (Sarah) said unto Abraham, Cast out this bondwoman and her son: for the son of this bondwoman shall not be heir with my son, even with Isaac. 1 Timothy 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. Genesis 21:12 And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sara…

Galatians 3 v 24 states that the law was our schoolmaster to bring us to Christ. Would you interpret that to mean that the law shows us how sinful we are and then we know our need of a Saviour? Or would you interpret it to mean that the law is in place "until Christ came"? Or a combination of the two interpretations?

"But when the people of the land shall come before the LORD in the solemn feasts, he that entereth in by the way of the north gate to worship shall go out by the way of the south gate; and he that entereth by the way of the south gate shall go forth by the way of the north gate: he shall not return by the way of the gate whereby he came in, but shall go forth over against it." Ezekiel 46:9 "he shall not return by the way of the gate whereby he came in" I can't believe that this was just for traffic control/flow. Does it have anything to do with teaching regeneration or sanctification?

If this has been discussed before let me know please... What is everyone's thinking about your main Bible being on your mobile device? For some this is heresy. We are trained to carry our (printed) Bible, mark our Bible, etc. etc. Some say reading off a cell phone or tablet is just not right. But wow... when you can have a complete Bible study system on your mobile device (phone/tablet) and indeed ALL you devices and sync them all. Having complete commentary sets and so many Bible study aids the "Mobile Bible" (study system) has so many advantages. What about you? - Do you think you could ever NOT carry a printed Bible? - Could you ever get …

It's hard to a decent KJV study bible these days. Someone recommend The Defenders Study Bible by Henry Morris, but believe it's out of print because the prices for it on Amazon are ridiculous. I have seen there is Henry Morris Study Bible now in KJV. Has anyone read it? If so would you recommend it, and why?

In my Quiet Time this morning I read Hebrews chapter 1. In verse 3 we read that Christ purged our sins "By Himself". These words are important as they teach that Christ purged away our sins without any help from us. We did not contribute anything in the way of good works or religious observances. However, the modern versions have removed these words and so, by implication, have downgraded one of the chief evidences in the Bible that salvation is a totally free gift. To be fair, the NKJV does keep these words in; but even then, they append a footnote that calls them into question. I would be interested to know what others think about this point.

In Genesis 6 v 3 we read that God's Spirit "will not always strive with man". I sometimes used to wonder what that meant. Then I heard a sermon from an evangelist based in N. Ireland named Alan Bartley. He preached a powerful sermon about how he believed that if people keep resisting the pull of the Holy Spirit, they may do it once too often and the Holy Spirit will withdraw from granting him any more conviction, thus leaving that person to die in his sins. I'm not sure if this is a true interpretation - can anyone enlighten me on this? We know that people do resist the Holy Spirit because Stephen says so in Acts 7 v 51.
