This topic is not to discuss the accuracy of the KJV or other translations, but to discuss the use of saying "I use the KJV 1611 Bible" Is it wrong to say that we use the KJV 1611 or should we say KJV 1763? A common argument against the KJV is to say that we don't use the 1611 Bible but rather the 1763. I understand what took place in the English language for the updates that took place in 1763, and I also understand why I say KJV 1611. Nobody that I'm aware of says that the Bible I read is the original KJV 1611 style, but the foundation was from the KJV 1611. It seems that that logic that is thrown in the KJV faces only applies to the Bible. I drive a 2013…

Hi, I would love to hear the community’s feedback about using an update to the King James Version. I love the KJV. But the language is basically 400 year-old English. So if there were a simple and accurate update to the KJV that made no changes except updating the old language, would you want to use it? What would be your thoughts generally about such an update? Would you like it as a stand alone version, or as a parallel Bible with the current KJV? It would be great to hear what you all think. May God be glorified. In Christ, Joseph

Per title, it's about time I purchase a new Bible to preach from. My current preaching Bible of 30+ years is beyond repair. It is a Scofield Bible and I'm starting to have a hard time reading the small print. he Bible has been taped together plenty of times, but pages keep falling out now so time to purchase a new Bible. Thank you, I'm not looking for wide margin Bible, but rather just a good Bible to use while preaching. My questions are, What type of KJV Bible do you recommend or even maybe use? Scofield, Cambridge, Thompson Chain, etc. What size font do you like to use? Goatskin, Lambskin, etc? Which one holds up better?

I was thinking ahead to the events of Christ's passion and His resurrection, I completed a side study on Judas Iscariot and a thought crossed my mind. I can't imagine what it might have been like for that other disciple who was partnered with Judas Iscariot when Christ sent them forth (Mark 6:7). Can you? Who would have been paired with Judas? Simon Peter, Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, James, Lebbaeus Thaddaeus, Simon the Canaanite. Try substituting your name for any of the eleven above and imagine the experience. What effect might this have had from the experience? Apostle? Yourself?

I am new to this forum, and I specifically came here to see the IFB views about Divorce, Re-Marriage, Adultery and Ministry. I am an IFB and have wrestled for years about this topic, because of my desire to be in the ministry. I can say that this has been a subject of great debate since the 1st century and, knowing that God is not the author of confusion, I can only conclude that Satan has used this to divide churches and create sects that do not glorify God. One thing is clear to me; "The husband of one wife" means what it says. A one woman man, committed to the one he is married to, whatever the situation, be it death or divorce...BUT, I must continue! First of…

Hi everyone. I have no idea if there is any truth of this or not but I have heard that there are variations between the different publishers of the KJV. Is that true? :?

Having grown up in the Hyles movement and since rejecting most of what I was taught in the movement, I am no longer KJVO in the extreme sense of the term. My position would be closest to PastorJ's - TRO. My position is based upon what I was taught at Bible college and that is that the Received Text is based on over 5,000 manuscripts that are in agreement with one another and were found spread out all over the Middle East. The Critical Text, however, is based largely on fragments that do not always agree with each other and were found in basically one location. They are touted by some as being more authoritative because they are older. Is this what the rest of y…

I started this last year, finding a verse for each day where the chapter matched the month and the verse matched the day. I've been posting them to my social media accounts, but I thought I could post them here, too. If you want to see the script I created which lists all the verse for the current day go to http://myopenbible.org/_votd.php. I create the images using my site http://mybiblememes.com/

So I am somewhat of a Bible collector and fanatic, I love all the different cover materials and leathers, all the different formats such as font sizes, wide margin, study materials, etc and I have amassed a wealth of knowledge relating to Bibles from all different publishers and styles. So let's talk about Bibles! I have had many study bibles over the years and I wanted to discuss some of them, what is your favorite? what do you like to use and why? Right now I am using a thumb indexed Holman wide margin minister's Bible that I had rebound in a saddle tan goatskin (I had all of the "minister helps" removed :) , it has 11 point font and it is really an awesome …

The doctrinal statement on the Bible on the Baptist World Mission Board. Although the Scriptures were penned under the unerring guidance of the Holy Spirit, it does not follow, that a continued miracle has been wrought to preserve them from all error in transcribing. On the contrary, we know that manuscripts differ from each other; and where readings are various, but one of them can be correct. A miracle was needed in the original production of the Scriptures; and, accordingly a miracle was wrought; but the preservation of the inspired word, in as much as perfection as was necessary to answer the purpose for which it was given, did not require a miracle, and accord…

If you have Amazon Prime you can stream a movie for free called Bridge to Babylon. It's a fascinating documentary about Wescott and Hort and their corrupt text based on the fraudulent Vaticanus and Sinaiticus. Though you probably already know about this there is some new ground covered I've never heard before especially why Wescott/Hort made the decision to foster a corrupt text upon the world, the fraudulent source of Sinaiticus (it's most likely a forgery) and why the early heretics removed certain words from scripture which is reflected in today modern versions. It really is highly recommended viewing.

THE IMPORTANCE OF CROSS REFERENCES - James L. Melton Far too often I see Christians privately interpreting the Scriptures by saying things like "Well, I think it means this" or "Brother Jones said it means that." In their minds, they honestly believe that their opinion is just as sound as anyone else's, even when they use no Scripture to support their position. "I'm entitled to my opinion, and I believe it this way" is often the only argument they have. This childish way of handling the Scriptures has produced a generation of brain-dead Christians who know nothing worth knowing and believe nothing worth believing. The power of God's word is sadly missing from th…

(I was recently asked about what the overall theme of Esther was, beyond the general story and the subject or the historical background. My friend was wanting to know if there was a good commentary that clearly laid out the Allegorical/Types found in Esther. Its clear from reading the story that it holds more than just what is found on the surface but many commentaries do not go beyond a surface reading except to venture the fact that God orchestrated their salvation from behind the scenes. Those that did venture in to the allegorical tended to very odd or speculative ways that were not consistent with scripture, so I could not recommend even mentioning them and their the…

What are your opinions of this study/reference bible? Despite how I may feel about some of the doctrine contained in the notes of this study bible as far as a reference bible it is probably the best I've ever seen. Truly amazing. I highly recommend this for your studies.

For a number of months during the messages at our little local church, I've been silently quoting a verse here and there that I'd memorized and found that I was off a word or two; so I thought. I didn't think that much about it because I figured that the Pastor was just quoting only part of the verse and continuing on with the message. It didn't even cross my mind until this morning as we were listening to our pastor giving the message on our church's radio station. He read a verse....one that I know very well...and I was flabberghasted! I quickly got on the cell and for some reason chose the NKJV to compare to and it what it said.....and that is exactly what the Past…

First off, I like this Sword bible for its Red Letter of the OT and the NT. However, it has errors, or should I say, changes to GOD's Word. Publisher Whitaker House KJV (fake version) bible errors. This is not a true King James Bible. The word changes are very subtle, but these changes effect the verse meaning drastically, taking away from the Word of GOD. Below are some samples. Book & Chapter KJB / Fake KJV King James Bible (KJB) 1611 Fake KJV (version) …

John 6:11 KJB - “And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed TO THE DISCIPLES, AND THE DISCIPLES to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.” ESV (NASB, NIV, NET, Jehovah Witness NWT, Catholic Douay, St. Joseph NAB, New Jerusalem bible) - “Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted.” All of the other passages found in the synoptic gospels show that Jesus first gave the loaves of bread to the DISCIPLES and they, in turn, distributed to the multitude of people. Matthew 14:19 - …
