NIV 1978 and 1982 editions - "See, HE is puffed up; his desires are not upright - but the righteous will live BY HIS FAITH." 2 Samuel 21:19 (ESV-English Standard Version) And there was again war with the Philistines at Gob, and Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim, the Bethlehemite, struck down Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam. ...oops...wait...sorry...just ignore that last verse! After reading the dual account in 1 Chronicles 20:5, the ESV corrects its mistake. 1 Chronicles 20:5 (ESV-English Standard Version) And there was again war with the Philistines, and Elhanan the son of Jair struck down Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the shaft of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam. I guess there ARE contradictions in the...err...uhmmm..."Bible".

"There is No Infallible Bible" Most Christians today do NOT believe The Bible IS the inerrant and infallible word of God. This statement may seem shocking at first, and many pastors and Christians will give the knee-jerk reaction saying that the do believe the Bible IS the infallible word of God. However, upon further examimation, it will soon be discovered that when they speak of an inerrant Bible, they are not referring to something that actually exists anywhere on this earth. They are talking about a mystical Bible that exists only in their imaginations; and each person's particular version differs from all the others. God said: "Behold, the days come, saith…

One of the Hebrew words the NKJV is constantly changing for no good reason is the word SEED. In Nehemiah 9:2 we read: "And the SEED of Israel separated themselves from all strangers..." The Hebrew word is SEED # 2233, and is used for both the seed of plants and the seed of men. Here SEED is also the reading of the Geneva Bible, the Jewish translations, the RV, ASV, Young's, and many others. Even the NKJV often correctly translates this word as "seed", but not here and not in many other places as well. Here, instead of the correct "the SEED of Israel", the NKJV says "THE LINEAGE of Israel", the NASB has "the descendants", NIV and Holman "those of Israelite DESCENT"…

Every Man for Himself Bible Versions - the HCSB, NET, ESV, TNIV, NKJV "In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes." Judges 21:25 For those who have ears to hear and can see through the Double-Speak, inconsistency and logical fallacies of modern version scholars, the 2001 Holman Christian Standard Bible provides us with several quotes that exemplify the typical, pious sounding BALONEY promoted by those who do not believe IN FACT that any Bible is now the complete, inerrant and 100% true words of God. In the Introduction to the HCSB, the translators describe themselves as "a team of 100 scholars, editors, stylis…

I recently started reading a book by Alister McGrath called "In the Beginning. The Story of the Kings James Bible and how it changed a nation, a language, and a culture." So far I have found it to be extremely informative. Has anyone else heard of this book or its author?

Hi guys. I watched most of Bart Ehrman's videos about 'Misquoting Jesus' over at UTube and there has been some discussion going on. Most are Bible mockers of course but there are one or two other Bible believers. Anyway, this was just posted today and I thought it was highly significant. This guy is very serious. He is not joking at all and he has been posting mocking questions and critical comments about the Bible and Christianity. I've answered him a few times but only God can break through the darkness. "And there are many of us atheists who were dedicated Christians for over 20 years before they went off to Bible College to prepare for the ministry, began stud…

If a person or church makes this statement of faith...... "We believe the Old and New Testaments are inerrant as originally given".......are they saying that there is no such thing as a perfect Word of God which exist today? If so, are they saying this for a compromise which will allow many versions to be accepted? God Bless!

It is not eisegesis to interprete The Sons of God in Genesis 6:1-8 as believers of the godly line of Seth. The geneologies in Genesis 4 and 5 trace the human race through two lines one headed by Cain and the other headed Seth. In the context these geneologies are accompanied by a statement of the moral develpments in Genesis chapter 6. The intermarriage of the "Sons of God", the godly line of seth with "the daughters of men", the ungodly line of Cain caused wickedness to become so great that God purposed to destroy man from the earth. Notice in Genesis 6:6, "And it repented Jehovah that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart." The topoic is man. In …

I was in a "Christian" (read: new evangelical) bookstore when I say this in the Bible section. Apparently some British actor thought it necessary to rewrite the Bible in "hip" language to appeal to the mass market. Apparently Leviticus isn't important. To quote the auther: "Well, if you need more Leviticus in your spiritual life, then you need help." Here is his rendition of Genesis 1:1-2 - "First off, nothing ... but God. No light, no time, no substance, no matter. Second off, God says the word, and WHAP! Stuff everywhere! The cosmos in chaos: no shape, no form, no function -- just darkness ... total. And floating above it all, God's Holy Spirit, ready for action." …

"There is only one Book," When Sir Walter Scott lay dying he summoned to his side his man in waiting and said, "Read to me out of the Book." Which book? answered his servant. "There is only one Book," was the dying man's response--"The Bible!" The Bible is the Book to live by and the Book to die by. Therefore read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, practice it to be holy. As another has said: "Know it in the head, store it in the heart, show it in the life, sow it in the world." "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thorough…

Hi saints, my apologies to those who have already seen this, but it appears there are some members here who aren't in other clubs where I have posted this. The Whateverists love to bring this one up all the time, so I decided to provide an answer. It is amazing what an English dictionary can do for our understanding. God bless, We fetched a compass Acts 28:12-13 "And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days. And from thence WE FETCHED A COMPASS, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli." The 1% Manuscripts: Aleph & B http://www.ekkcom.com/one-prct.htm Is there anything wherefore it may be said, 'See, this is new? It hath been already of old time which was before us. Ecclesiastes 1:10 The New International Version, New American Bible, New American Standard, New Jerusalem, New English Bible, and New Revised Standard are not so 'New' as we have seen, but are but merely an encore of the 'New' Age esotericism of Plato, Saccus, Clement and Origen, set on the stage of the Egyptian papyri and Eusebius' Aleph and B manuscripts. Then the chief captain came near and took him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains...And as Paul was to be l…

1 Corinthians 2:14 "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." We are seeing first hand the truth of God's word! Just look back over the recent posts from betteroffdead. 1 John 5:19 "And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness." We've had some recent examples of this truth on the OB board. Usually we are all over these folks with scripture and show less compassion than we should. I'm glad to see restraint from myself as well as others. It could only be the Holy Spirit helping us to exercise care for a Christ starved i…

I've wondered before why God chose to leave out all the churches in the west. John knew the churches in the west existed. Besides the obvious answers does anyone have any thoughts on it?

This verse from Psalm 46 is one of my favorites: "Be still, and know that I am God". For the believer it is healthy and wholesome to contemplate quietly the greatness and sovereignty of our majestic and gracious God. City dwellers I think face a special challenge to be able to get away from the constant bustle and rush, and spend time in prayer with their Bibles and remember and contemplate the greatness of God, and His holiness, the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ. It's one of my favorite texts, anyway. Blessings.

"four corners" 1 2

What do you think of the "four corners" excuse by non-Christians to dispute God's omniscience? Many from the non-believer’s side use the verse from Isaiah to say the Bible is infallible. They say men, were not inspired to write the Bible by God because Isaiah used science’s “world view of the day” of a flat “cornered” earth. They say, “An all knowing God would know the world was not flat so, there must be no God.” Isaiah 11:12 And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.
