I was saved about 10 years ago, and I'm sure I was saved. God transformed my life and proved Himself to me over and over. I've been a member of an IFB church ever since, and I always believed that once a person was saved, nothing could separate him from the love of God, nothing could cause him to be unsaved. About a month ago I started questioning God about hell. I think it started because I was thinking about my dead grandfather, whom I loved very much, and who died when I was a child, years before I was saved. I never got a chance to witness to him. I should have just trusted God with the whole thing, but instead I got angry with Him and started questioning His …

I was just having an interesting conversation with a co-worker who was an IFB but was led astray by Calvinism and turned Presbyterian (there were also pot-shots being thrown in by our resident Lutheran...). He asked whether regeneration came before or after salvation. I, of course, said after and explained non-Calvinist salvation to him. Why this caught me off-guard I'm not sure because I know the Reformed position, but he was completely stuck on Ephesians 2:8-9, though not in the way that we understand it. Both of them are convinced that accepting the free gift of salvation is a decision and thus action taken to affect salvation and thus a work that can be boasted. …

What is Faith? Is it a "blind leap in the dark?" Is it believing in something that we can not know? Further, is faith an action or is it a thought?

Forgiveness

In dealing with forgiveness...the Bible teaches salvation puts our sin away and when we are in judgement we will be judged for our works and not our sins, if we are saved. BUT... On the other hand alot is preached on forgiveness...confessing our sins and "if you don't forgive others, God won't forgive you" etc. But doesn't the Bible teach that we are "justified" if we are saved? What part does forgiveness play in a saved person's life? I was just studying my sunday school lesson and it teaches the well known lesson that we should forgive others so that God will forgive us. But technically if we are saved...we ARE forgiven...right? So...what's the best way t…

From what I understand to repent means to turn away from....right? I want to use an example to ask my question. Suppose a person falls down on their knees and crys out to God to forgive them of there sins, Lets say this person is a smoker, or gambler, or drinker, whatever, and they too ask specific forgiveness of that particular sin...When the person is done praying they get up, dry off their face and go do that same exact sin immediately.....Is this genuine repentance??? Did this person repent?

I have a goal for this year. I?ve prayed about this and I know God has called me to do it. I don?t know what the outcome will be, but I am compelled. I am to go door to door in our community, as many as will receive me, I am to leave the Gospel of Christ and invite them to my local church. I am to let God use this effort to His glory and not fret over outcomes. I recall an exhortation from a previous pastor, ?A call to preach is a call to prepare,? Rod Bell, Pastor, Tabernacle Baptist Church (TBC), 1980s. My effort is not a formalized call to be a ?preacher? in the modern context; it is everyone?s call to witness and so, preaching to a certain extent. This is the rea…

I just thought Id post up the simple truth about God's will for sinners. These verses have been very comforting to me recently, and I believe that they can help people who might be going through some of the same things I have. If you ever doubt your salvation, or if you have loved ones that are not saved then meditate on these promises from the Lord. " For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth" 1 Timothy 2:3,4 " And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, ' Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?' But when Jesus heard that, he said un…

- According to Christ's sayings; the properties of night and day are distinctly different. ● John 11:9-10 . . Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him. The light of this world is the sun. ● Gen 1:14 . . And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night ● Gen 1:16 . . And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night So then; when…

I read a debate on another forum about salvation and "Lordship salvation." Just wondering if anyone could give me some clarity on these topics. John 3:16 says "...that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life." Thus, all it takes for salvation is to BELIEVE. Repentance and good works are the fruit of a faithful Christian, but without them you are still a believer and still saved? Or is repentance ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY? I repent for my sins and do what I believe to be "good works" for my friends, family, church, community and witness, educate, etc. But is that necessary to salvation? Are grace (i.e. "saved by the grace of God) and faith…

Can someone please help me? I have been have many doubts about my salvation for many months now. All these thought go through my head: was my repentance real? did I really put ALL my trust in the blood of Jesus Christ? Is it now impossible for me to repent?. Quite honestly sometimes I don't know how much longer I can hold on. When I try to overcome these doubts by remembering my testimony, I really wonder if it was real or not. I'll try to make it short but it goes like this. I was camping with a bunch of people I didn't really know about 4 years ago, I drank a bunch of psychedelic cool-aid. I went through many hours of what can only be described as demonic torment, …

This hit me Sunday morning as our Pastor was reading the text in John 3 before the message. A person who has never been saved is...."he that believeth not" right? Hypothetical question.... What if a person who ONCE believed, could stop believing? Wouldn't he now also be "he that believeth not"? But that can't be so, because this verse says that "he that believeth not"......"hath not believed" John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Any person who doesn't believe, never has.

- According to Jesus Christ's testimony as a credible expert witness in all matters pertaining to the afterlife; most of the world's responsible souls haven't been making it to safety when they cross over to the other side. ● Luke 13:22-24 . . And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. ● Matt 7:13-14 . . Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, a…

I have been troubled by something I have recently seen. I hope someone can shed some light on this topic for me. I will do more research on it, but obviously there is only so much time, and i hoped that one of you have done the research already. Basically, in the video it quotes church Bishops that were directly linked to the apostles. It basically states that the early church taught salvation in 2 stages...1. Grace through Faith. (which is what we cling to) 2 After conversion it describes Eternal Security as conditional. He said the apostles didn't worry about their salvation, but taught that a person can walk away basically. I immediately thought to myself this guy is a…

My friend seems to think they do am I right to be frustrated about it? the last question I have is How can they know for sure unless they actually can see my heart and the only person that can do that is God. Am I right?

Hi guys. I don't know where to post this, but the Lord has been laying it in my heart for the past few days to tell people about Jesus. This burden is so strong that I have felt sick and very desperate to reach out to others and tell them about Jesus. I asked my Pastor if there were any ministries I could do through my church to serve God, but all he said to me was that if there was anything, he'd let me know. God has been driving me to serve Him so bad that I don't think I can wait much longer for an answer from my Pastor, I am desperate here and I don't think he understands just how urgent it is to witness to the lost. People are dying and going to Hell. That is no l…

This week we have been having revival services and today I thought I would share what the one Pastor was talking about. Faith is tried, it is tested and it can be true. The Pastor was pretty much talking about the man who was born a cripple. Turn to Mark 2vs1-5 As we know the four friends carried him to go see Jesus and when Jesus saw them it says in verse 5 Jesus saw their faith because they had so much of it. I mean think about it wouldn't it be great if Jesus could see our faith because their is so much of it. I don't know about you but I say too many times our minds doubt the power of God and instead we are filled with fear and this is a serious thing because it can …

Greetings! How do we know that we're Christians? What defines a Christian? Well, the biblical answer would be two fold: 1) *knowledge, *belief (or assent), and *trust in Jesus Christ. 1. Knowledge in that one intellectually apprehends the essential facts of who Christ is--namely, that He is God in the flesh (sent by the God the Father) that He really died and *physically* raised from the grave, and born of a virgin (also including the facts of the Tri-unity of God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit sharing the nature of the ONE God, i.e., one God co-existing as three eternal, equal, "distinct" persons). 2. Belief (or assent) in those facts. 3. Tr…

What questions should a christian ask himself to know for sure he is saved? Like someone say " I have accepted Jesus as my Savior" but the truth is, he is a mormon. I read countless posts (other message boards) saying Romney, a mormon, must be saved because he publicly announced that he accepted Jesus as his savior. Of course, one the post here on OLB reminded me those posts so I thought I would start this topic.
