I was wondering what you think of what I like to call "Instant" repennters, people who plan on sinning and then pray for forgiveness of that sin. They make a habit of sinning and repenting, with no intention of giving up the sinful behaviour they repented for.

This was taken from an article by a Calvinist, teaching 'perseverence of the saints'. It is, I believe, from the RSV(Revised Standard Version). Repentance CANNOT save I'm writing on the topic of repentance in regards to salvation because this is a subject that is very misinterpreted today, (even amongst Independent, Fundamental Baptists) and there’s a LOT of false teaching out there under the guise of repentance that is actually teaching a works-based salvation. I'm posting part of response from another "Baptist" forum that was left unanswered about 2 Peter 3:9 and the Calvinist mangling of it. Feel free to add to it. I recently was talking to a catholic about James. II Corinthians 5:17 says Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. A scenario my husband recently heard about. This was from a conservative.: Person: I know I am not saved because I do not feel sorry for the ?sins? I commit. How sorry would I need to feel? Preacher: ?Being sorry has absolutely nothing to do with salvation. It is an instantaneous event. When you believe/trust it is complete. Later on sanctification occurs where you become more Christ like and change your ways but being saved doesn?t remove the sin desires from us?.

How can you tell if a Christian is Saved (born again)? This easily happens, when a person is not shown the Bible. If the person did not confess, realize that he or she is a sinner, that needs a savior. They might be still lost. Just praying and letting the Holy Spirit do everything might not be enough. Opening the Bible and sharing it, brings assurance to the new believer.

BJ was introduced to our fellowship group a few weeks ago as a new convert. He had been seeking peace in his religion for some time, but met a Nigerian who told him, "Not religion, but faith in Jesus" & prayed with & for him. I was baptised into the Church of Christ when I was about (guessing) 7 or 8 years old. Later in life after attending many different churches, I was saved under the ministry of an IFB and followed the Lord with believer's baptism. (arminianism is also incorrect) Before the foundation of the world God knew that mankind would need redemption from their wickedness and decided that He would choose all who who are in Christ by faith to be holy and without blame, adopted as sons and forgiven of sins. See Ephesians 1:4-7 Note: He did not choose which individuals would be in Christ.
