This is taken from the June/July 2011 issue of Reader's Digest: "My now ex-girlfriend and I were in my room one day, and the internet was particularly slow. After I complained, she suggested that I untangle my ethernet cord so that more internet could get through."

So I am finally at home, and my wife is at a CPR class, so I have some free time on the computer. I am catching up on all the threads, but I wanted to post. Our computer died last week (Actually a hardware problem, he computer works, but the lid will not stay open). So we finally broke down and purchased a new laptop. I must say, the MacBook is realllllly nice. :Green

In the past when we tried using ad blockers, they also blocked pictures and videos we wanted to see. Can anyone recommend a better ad blocker please?

Someone was selling a copy of adobe cs3 master collection on craigslist. I asked for details and they said some company had a lot of corporate column licenses and went bankrupt. the woman selling them said her father bought it for a good price for his business, but he's now retiring. She's selling them off but was saying that while the activation keys work, it wasn't a legal commercial license. I told her I was interested, but I had read through adobe's TOS pretty carefully, as well as am familiar with their security. Only legal licenses will activate the software. Well I got the DVD in the mail along with an activation key. It installed, activated and updated from adobe.…

I am using uBlock Plus which has been stopping all ads, but today I get large ads on the right hand side of the screen. They take up about a third of the screen. How can I stop that? One I get quite a lot is The Continuing Church of God. Any idea why? On a number of sites I have my password remembered, but also today, they have not been remembered.

Many, many years ago I came across "The C.H. Spurgeon Collection" for a super bargain basement price - so I grabbed it. Now I am not a huge Spurgeon fan, but I can appreciate his body of work. When we upgraded the church computer, we went to a 64bit system, and it seems as though no matter what I do, the Ages software will not load. I have downloaded the PDF's from the disk (that is the storage format), but the beauty of the software is that it gives a great index system. I can print the index, but then have to go and find the individual PDF files - painful...…. (21st century problems hey?! ?) So, any of you pooter gurus know of any way to get t…

I have a website which has a forum on phpBB software. It is a ladies only forum. However, I want to be able to have men in two of the sections that are invitation only...and I have that part set up with usergroups. The thing is, I want to be able to sign the particular men and women up to those forums without them seeing the rest of the board. Is that something I have to tackle on an individual user basis? The last time I bought an anti-virus, I bought McAfee, but I will never do this again, one reason is this note I got from them below. And all I run is Firefox, I had no idea they did not support Firefox until yesterday and I have been running it since February 2006. <> Also McAfee will not let you run it on 2 computers, for instance, I still have my old computer, it is in the back bedroom, I use it only if I have a problem with this one, maybe 10 % of the time thru the year, I have had 3 other anti-virus, I did not have this problem with them. I will go back to Norton's and or Computer Associates know as EZtrust which I had last time, I never had one problem w…

I recently got a new edition of Defender Pro, the last one worked great, no problems, never no virus. But the new one brought, seems they changed it up quite a bit, it caused a problem on my computer, ever time I boot a window comes ups that say Win453 failed to shutdown and wait of click end program now. If you wait on it still will not boot, will boot only if you click end program now. But even more than that seems my computer take twice as long to boot. Seems they have been having this problem for a few months now, there cure is to turn off the anti virus them boot, but I tried that and the Win453 still pops ups. If they don't come up with something quick I was t…

I have to either renew my subscription to Windows live one care or find another antivirus. Since I am cheap, I am looking for something less than the $40 they want. I am running an IBM Thinkpad with Windows Vista and IE 7.0 What is everyone else using?

I've got Windows XP. Later yesterday I noticed that my icon for IE7 had disappeared, it was late and I did not check it out. This evening my bookmarks are gone on my Firefox browser. I have not had time to check none of this out real good, but I did check this. I checked on the system restore for it records any action if anything is removed, nothing has been removed. the only change in the last few days is this, 6:58:58 AM Software Distribution Service 3.0 on Thursday. I believe I used IE7 on Friday. I did look and I've got a folder under the Program Files for Internet Explore.

Anyone MPB Pro users here monitor their computer temps? I've got a bad fan and I installed "iStat" to monitor temps. I'm just wondering what typical, low, mid-range and high temps are for this Mac? Typical temp with Safari and Word, etc is about 150 degrees with both fans running about 1000 rpm. Video editing shoots temp up to about 220. Anyone else? (I have a new fan on order. Got the old one working temporarily by removing and spraying with cleaner which slightly lubed it. It's actually running pretty quietly.)
