Numbers In The Bible Series 12 - Seven Reasons God Wrote To Believers Day 12 - Seven Reasons God Wrote To Believers In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1) Jesus Christ has many names: Alpha and Omega, King of Kings, Saviour, Messiah, etc. My favorite of His names is "the Word." The very words of God are given through Jesus Christ, the Word! There are seven times (meaning perfection) Jesus is called the Word in the New Testament. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, …

Numbers In The Bible Series 13 - Paul's Final Exhortation To Timothy Part Two Day 13 - Paul's Final Exhortation To Timothy - Part Two The Preacher And His Living It is interesting to note that the Apostle Paul gave the young preacher, Timothy, seven charges for himself and for the people he was pastoring in the two letters addressed specifically to Timothy: A) 1 Timothy 1:3-4 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine, Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do. B) …

Numbers In The Bible Series 11 - Paul's Final Exhortation To Timothy Part One Day 11 - Paul's Final Exhortation To Timothy - Part One The Preacher And His Preaching 2 Timothy 4:1-5 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned un…

Soaring Aloft On Eagle’s Wings Tossed to and fro in the path of the storm, Grey clouds lowering and blocking my view; Growing so weary in this turbulent wind, How do I rise upwards in faith to You? My strength needn’t falter or flag in the air, All I need is to trust and wait on the Lord; When I look up to You in heartfelt prayer, In victory, I find my spirit has soared. Finding courage to face this storm head on; Claiming Your promises and rising above; These clouds won’t hold me back from serving my Lord, I’m soaring aloft on Your wings of love. I’m flying so high up on eagle’s wings, Far above the dreary world below; High over a…

Numbers In The Bible Series 10 - Grace To Fret Not Day Ten - Grace To Fret Not Psalm 37:1-2 (A Psalm of David.) Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. I found myself in a situation recently where some money that was owed me did not come in when I was expecting it - and when I figured I needed it to pay a bill. Because of that, I started complaining and stewing - I started fretting about the money and the person. Then the Holy Spirit pricked my conscience and showed me exactly what I was doing. He brought Psalm 37 to mind, a…

Numbers In The Bible Series 09 - The Eight Rocks Of Scripture Day Nine - The Eight Rocks Of Scripture While I was on the phone with my dear friend, we were discussing the possibilities of doing a 30-day series on the verses containing the word "rock." As I searched out this possibility, the Lord impressed upon my heart to search for each time the word "rock" was capitalized - Rock. When the results surfaced, I began to weep tears of joy along with my dear friend. My eyes rested on seven verses containing the word Rock and the seventh verse had two occurrences, totaling eight! There is no greater feeling in the world than that of finding a nugget in God's …

Numbers In The Bible Series 08 - The Lord's Eight Provisions Day Eight - The Lord's Eight Provisions Psalm 121, [A Song of degrees.] I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. (1) My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. (2) He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.(3) Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. (4) The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. (5) The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. (6) The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. (7) The LORD shall preserve thy goin…

Numbers In The Bible Series 07 - Fourfold Picture Of Water From The Rock Day Seven - Fourfold Picture Of Water From The Rock 1 Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. It is interesting to note that this fourfold picture is unfolded in chronological order in the Bible. 1) The Rock Must Be Smitten Exodus 17:1-7 And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink. Wheref…

Numbers In The Bible Series 06 - The Nine Cares Of A Shepherd Day 6 - The Nine Cares Of A Shepherd Psalm 23, [A Psalm of David.] The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. (1) He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. (2) He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. (3) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. (4) Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. (5) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me a…

Numbers In The Bible Series 05 - Sevenfold Praise - Part Two: Seven Reasons To Praise God Day Five - Sevenfold Praise - Part Two Ps 100 A Psalm of praise. Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before His presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD He is God: it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name. For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations. Ps 100 is a short Psalm, but one of the most po…

Numbers In The Bible Series 04 - Five Things God Did For The Sinner Day Four - Five Things God Did For The Sinner Ro 8:29-30, For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. (29) Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. (30) As a young believer, I struggled with Paul's words in these two verses. I was easily confused when the doctrine of predestination crossed my path. I knew that my Heavenly Father would not want His child to be confused as to where s…

Would anyone be interested in reading mine and Kate Plourde's Numbers In The Bible Series from 2007? I am sure I probably posted at least some of those studies back in the day, but I have found usually anything that old on these boards are either archived or the threads are locked (and often have only some of the content readable and with weird quirky formatting from the old html). The series ended up going for 60 days, a few of the studies are pretty long. I will post the intros to the studies we had on our sites. It will be hard to control myself, but I can post one a day (or one per weekday) until the series is done. That would be two months of devotionals, if anyone i…

Day Two - Bless The Lord [A Psalm of David.] Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. (Ps 103:1) David is the master at blessing God. He knew Who provided him with help and Who delivered him. Ps 103:1-5 is a beautiful picture of a man after God's heart. As our series progresses on the "numbers" which can be found in Scriptures, I was pointed to the seven different ways that David blessed his God. Ps 103:1-5, [A Psalm of David.] Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. (1) Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: (2) Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy …

Numbers In The Bible Series 01 - Be Glad And Rejoice Day One - Be Glad And Rejoice Webster's 1828 Dictionary defines glad in part as "Pleased; affected with pleasure or moderate joy; moderately happy... Expressing gladness or joy; exciting joy." The Way Of Life Encyclopedia states this in regards to joy, "Christian joy and rejoicing is, above all else, steadfast confidence in God regardless of one's circumstances." I have heard it expressed as "a deep-rooted sense of contentment and trust in the Saviour." Happiness depends upon what "happens" to us - if something good happens, we are happy; but, if something bad happens to us, we are sad. However, the tru…

When The Enemy Comes In Like A Flood When the enemy comes in like a flood, Deliver me by Your mighty hand; With Your armour girded around me tight, Lord, teach me this day how to stand. Let me lift up a standard against them – The banner of Your great love; Let my enemies flee before Your face; Let them see my help comes from above! The name of the Lord is my strong tower; He is my Rock, my fortress, my shield; The Lord Jesus Christ is my great Deliverer – He bares His holy arm, and my enemies yield. When I hear the sound of a trumpet blowing, In my heart, I know there is a call to fight – But the battle is not mine alone to wage; …

Behold Your Saviour Behold the Man – the Perfect Man, The Promised Seed from days of old; The Son of Man who came from Heaven, As all My chosen prophets had foretold. Behold My Servant – with opened ears, Delighting to do all of My will; In the Volume of the Book it is written, All of My Law would He fulfill. Behold your King – the King of Kings, The Son of David ruling from on High; The Prince of Peace, the Lion of Judah, The Living Waters of Shiloh flowing by. Behold your God – the one True God, Your greatest need He would provide; This is My Son in whom I’m well pleased, This is the reason for which He died: Behold the La…

Why Trouble The Master? Jairus’ daughter lay dying, but Jesus was near; He sought the Saviour for his loved one so dear. Before the journey ended, his daughter had died; The crowd now grew restless and someone soon cried, “Why trouble the Master? Your daughter is gone. There is no more hope here, for she has passed on.” Why trouble the Master, the Saviour of men? When it seems all is lost, marred and scarred by sin, He offers new beginnings, forgiveness, and grace; Jesus loves you so much, He died in your place. A fountain for cleansing, power from on high, A reason for living – hear the Master’s cry. Why trouble the Master, the Healer of…

So Amazed Basking in Your presence at the start of the day, I meditate in wonder and begin to pray. “So amazed,” is all my raptured soul can say. Who am I, Lord, that You would love me this way? Once burdened by sins that my mind couldn’t erase, Now, forgiven – in Your sight there’s not even a trace. So amazed and awed by Your amazing grace. Who am I, Lord, that You would die in my place? At the mountaintop, at last, I rest from my climb, Rejoicing in the soothing peace that I find. So amazed, in Christ I have victory this time. By staying focused on Him, steadfast in mind. So amazed, Lord, by Your amazing grace, So amazed, Jesus, that You died in …

Faith As A Grain Of Mustard Seed I don’t know if I have the courage To carry me through each day, But with faith as a grain of mustard seed, I know my Lord will make a way. With Jesus watching over me, I need not fear what lies ahead; I just seek the Saviour first of all, And He provides my daily bread. With His Spirit dwelling within my heart, I know I have all the help that I need; With groanings which cannot be uttered, He answers my heartfelt pleas. With so many mountains in my life - These dark cliffs of which I dread - With faith as a grain of mustard seed, I can move these mountains instead. It’s not the size of my fa…

Just One Look Just one look to Jesus will bring healing to the soul; Just one look to Heaven and the heart will be made whole; Just one moment to see Him – just one glimpse of Him today; Falling in love with Jesus is only just one look away. One look away from the world, one look away from your sin, One look away from your idols – looking only unto Him; Just one look towards the Saviour, one turn away from the past, One heart reaching towards Jesus, looking only to Him at last. Just one look to Jesus, just the simple touch of faith; Just one heart that hungers for something real in its place; Just one conscience that senses there must be some…

Here is one of my earlier Christian poems told in the form of a story. Perhaps it will cause someone else to think about what road they are on in life: the Broad Way or the Narrow Way. If you are not sure you what road you are on, please make sure you are on the Narrow Road by trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation. The Road – Part One The Rearview Mirror There’s a little Narrow Road that leads to life. You drive on past and say, “This is nice. This wide eight-laned Highway is just great!” Shifting gears, you speed on past the Narrow Gate. You head off into the distance, Down this winding Highway; On the roadside a sign is posted –…

The End Of The Fight This world is getting darker; The saints are in disarray; The trials seem almost endless, And we long for the break of day - A time of no more struggles, No more warring with this world, No more wrestling with the darkness - Into Hell, Satan will be hurled. Chorus: Oh, Jesus is coming again To judge the children of men; Then our Saviour will reign - The King of kings from Jerusalem. There'll be no more reason to fight; No more need to lead to higher ground. That's the end of the night; The final division of lost and found. Faith will be turned into sight, And we can lay our armour down; All the wrongs will…

Been so long since posting here, hope I remember how to format posts properly. I have not written much these last few years, but I think this was my second to last poem/song. Love Broke Through I left my shelter, wandered out into harm; My faith grew so weak in the path of the storm. A trial of my choosing; no one else to blame; But His love broke through when I called on His name. Chorus: Love broke through the clouds, Love scattered the rain; God’s love brought healing in the midst of my pain. When the wind and the waves were all I could view, Jesus calmed the storm, and His love broke through. The wind rose so sudden, the thunder now roared; I was all but…
