Marie's Fun Cooken, Marie was a World War 2 war refugee who came to live with my family when I was a baby. She had a son in a Russian concentration camp who died there and a son who came with her named Siggfried. Fun cooken is a breakfast food which we loved. 2 cups of Flower, 2 eggs and sugar (to taste) and enough milk to make a thin batter. Put oil on a griddle and warm till a drop of water evaporates upon contact. Place enough batter to equal a large pancake on the griddle. After it begins to brown scrape the top layer off to the side to make the fun cooken thinner. Let brown then flip it over. Add oil to griddle as needed. Place fun cooken on a plate a…

Marie's Speck Perogun Marie was a World War 2 war refugee who came to live with my family when I was a baby. She had a son in a Russian concentration camp who died there and a son who came with her named Siggfried. Another food that Marie made for us which I really liked was called speck perogun. I don't know the correct spelling. Marie would fry ham and bacon and then chop it up into very small pieces. She would mix the the ham and bacon bits in a chewy bread dough and bake it. A man could make a meal on Marie's speck perogun! The memory makes my mouth water. Let me know if you try it and like it.

Mr. Stahl's recipe reminded me of one my Mom used to make as I read the first ingrediants off his list. Now we make it for our children and they love it. I still do too! Approx 2lbs of Turkey Meat 2 Cans Tomato Soup 1 Can Kidney Beans 1/2 to 2/3 box of Angel Hair Pasta Italian Seasoning to taste Shredded Mozzarella Cheese to taste We usually use 2 packages of Jenny-O turkey meat which is 2-1/2 pounds total and brown it, draining off most of the fat. While still pink we season to taste with the Italian seasoning. Then turn the temp down to simmer and add the tomato soup and kidney beans. If the mix looks a little dry, I'll not dr…

I am trying to work out the linguistics of an American cookery book for a recipe that I want to follow. Can anyone tell me what one third of a cup would be in fluid ounces or millilitres (or decilitres)? Can you tell me if I have got the following correct, please? Garbanzo beans = chick peas? Navy beans = Broad beans,? Lima beans = Butter beans? Belgian endive = Chicory? Thanks

The other thread was old, from last year, so I started this one. We seem to eat tuna a lot; it's a good buy. There seem to be real good deals around. It pays to shop around, though; some tuna deals aren't as generous as they seem. But as a meal they are certainly nutritious. My wife and I think so, anyway, and it's often me that gets to prepared tuna sandwiches. Thoughts?

Seeing as Rick admires them, I did a search on their site to find them in our area. It gives two in Southend on Sea as 18.6 and 19.1 miles. But it doesn't mention that you would have to have wings to get there over the water. Via Michelin gives it as 70 miles which is about right, but you would need to go across the Dartford Crossing, pay £1.50 each way in tolls and queue for ages at the toll booths to pay. We do have some nearer, though. Canterbury 5.2 miles Sittingbourne 12.8 miles Ashford, 3 branches, 14 to15.4 miles Broadstairs, 2 branches, 16.4 to 17.6 miles Folkestone 19.7 miles

There was a thread on horse meat a few months ago, but I cannot find it now. I was reminded of it when I was in France yesterday as I was glancing through the publicité of a hypermarché. I came across and item for horsemeat, the origine was given as Argentina or Canada or Mexico or Uraguay. When I looked in a meat cabinet, they had Rumsteck (rump steak) to grill and roasting joints, all with the origin: Canada.

My grandmother used to own a cast iron cookware set. You know, the ones that were heavy as I do not know what. Do you think this is a good investment, for purchasing a complete set would run a few hundred dollars. If not, want would you recommend?

Low fat pizza: a contradiction in terms? We eat quite a lot of pizza, and while we seem to be constantly buying the low fat variety of other foods, pizza seems to be an exception. Thoughts?

I learned a great truth last Sunday. Our preacher said that the word "vegetarian" is an old Indian word for "terrible hunter"! I like that definition! Roadkill soup: wait until the roadkill (it doesn't matter what kind) gets tenderized by tire tracks. (about four days should do it!) Scoop it up with a shovel and place in a well greased griddle. Add a little egg (One small egg), a pinch of salt, and your favorite herbs and spices. Let it set overnight, unrefrigerated, and add 2 cups of warm water. Bring to a boil blending in the ketchup and mustard in the amount you desire. Add onions, potatoes, and a thick broth Serve hot on a large bun or serve i…

Are we Christians making our faith a take what appeals to us or take only those things that make us feel good practice? Before you point out all those others who are doing it speak for yourself. Can you say all the Beattitudes and Fruits below apply to you? Matthew 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Matthew 5:8…
