Good Homeschool Bill Introduced Co-sponsored by 16 members of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and introduced on May 8, 2007, House Bill 1273 would significantly improve the homeschool law of Pennsylvania, one of the most restrictive laws in the nation. Most significant, this legislation would remove the requirement that home education programs be evaluated by public school superintendents to determine whether students were receiving an appropriate education. Current law not only requires parents to obtain an evaluation of their program by persons with qualifications prescribed by statute, it also requires local superintendents to conduct virtually the same ev…

Its called " A Thomas Jefferson Education". I recently read it and thought the principles for teaching helping a child achieve a solid education were outstanding. It really emphasizes children reading the classics (the Bible as well) and mentoring. Anyway i just wanted to see if anyone else had some experience with this book and if they implemented any of the principals from it.

KIDTRAX: ANOTHER INVASION INTO YOUR FAMILY Tricia Smith Vaughan July 30, 2006 NewsWithViews.com Only after I read The Underground History of American Education by John Taylor Gatto did I begin to think about how intrusive homework is on children's lives. While I am thankful for Gatto's insight, I am somewhat mad at myself for not seeing the obvious: Children spend at least six hours in school each day. Why can't all the learning be done during that time? Indeed it can. Ask any homeschooler. But no, no. The efficient and effective education of most homeschoolers doth not please the NEA, or most government school teachers. If stuff that is supposed to be learne…

This is for all the home schooling teachers and Sunday School teachers in your churches. WHAT TEACHERS MAKE The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life. One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued, "What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?" He reminded the other dinner guests what they say about teachers: "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach." To stress his point he said to another guest; "You're a teacher, Susan. Be honest. What do you make?" Susan, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, "You want to know wha…

PRWEB via PRWeb) October 24, 2006 -- Joel Turtel, author of "Public Schools, Public Menace: How Public Schools Lie To Parents and Betray Our Children," says busy working parents can now give their kids a low-cost, private-school education at home using the Internet. Millions of desperate parents today are appalled at the inferior education public schools give their kids, but think they have no where else to go. Many parents believe that the only alternative to public schools is either a Catholic or Protestant-affiliated school or expensive non-religious private school. The problem is that even Catholic schools now charge an average tuition between $3000 to $4000 a yea…

The Social Worker At Your Door: 10 Helpful Hints By Christopher J. Klicka, Senior Counsel for the Home School Legal Defense Association April 19, 2006 More and more frequently, homeschoolers are turned in on child abuse hotlines to social service agencies. Families who do not like homeschoolers can make an anonymous phone call to the child abuse hotline and fabricate abuse stories about homeschoolers. The social worker then has an obligation to investigate. Each state has a different policy for social workers, but generally they want to come into the family's home and speak with the children separately. To allow either of these to occur involves great risk…

I have heard this statement over and over again: "God called us to homeschool." I realize that homeschooling is a means to an end, as in evangelizing your children, discipling them, and training.... Also, I realize that God can definitely lead you in that directions..., but a calling of God?? I have always thought of the calling of God in a full-time ministry, such as preaching, pastoring, evanglism, missions, etc... We started homeschooling because the tuition for Christian schools down here were getting way out of our range. We didn't want to put them in ps, so that was our only other option. Since then, I've realized how God was leading in all of it, and we have…

(Coming to America in the not to distant future?) Faith schools 'may reject Christians' By Liz Lightfoot, Education Editor Children from Christian families may be turned away from popular Church of England schools to make way for non-believers and those of other faiths under a new quota system. At least a quarter of places at all new Church of England schools will be set aside for other pupils, according to guidelines outlined by the Church yesterday. The reform of school admissions will also affect Roman Catholic schools which will in future need to prove that their intakes reflect the social nature of the areas from which they recruit. The changes have been p…

I do not want to debate the issues on this thread, one of them has been debated before, I just want to give you a situation and ask how you would deal with it if you believed the same as me which I realize most of you on here don't. If you homeschooled your children with Christian curriculum that in general is top quality and very good, but disagreed with a few things like this, how would you deal with it? Ok so most of you know that I believe geocentricity not heliocentricity. If the books teach helioicentricity but we firmly and strongly without a doubt believe the geocentric theory to be correct Biblically, would you teach your children geocentricity and then hel…

In a recent article in New Scientist, home-schooling is cast in a disdainful light. The author is obviously deeply concerned about the impact home-schooled children will have on society in the future.. .... http://blogs.answersingenesis.org/aroun ... schooling/ This whole debate on science is just wasting our time. Unless they want to raise over 5 million children to themselves without the parents' help (yes, I say that because most of them are headbutting with the parents), These scientists need to just let it go. Religion and family is more important to most people than Science. Someone need to slap them on the head to realize that.

BROOKLYN, Porn Assignment Canceled After Parents Complain APOhio (Jan. 13) - A high school assignment to research and write about Internet pornography was canceled after parents complained, the school's superintendent said. The 14- and 15-year-old students at Brooklyn High School, outside of Cleveland, Ohio, were asked to research pornography on the Internet and list eight facts about it. They were also asked to write about their personal view toward the subject and their experience with it. Superintendent Jeff Lampert said that although the teacher's goal to discuss the harmful effects of pornography was well-intentioned, he agreed with …

Do you join and participate with a homeschool group in your area? Ours is a Christian one (there is also a secular one in the county). I'm interested in hearing about others. Do you test? Do you have activities (sports, academic, art)?

SBC Committee Member Agrees With Call for Public School 'Exit Strategy' By Jim Brown June 6, 2006 (AgapePress) - A second member of the Resolutions Committee for the upcoming Southern Baptist Convention meeting in Greensboro, North Carolina, says the denomination needs to consider developing a plan to remove its children from America's public schools. The SBC Resolutions Committee will meet Thursday to begin poring over resolutions that have been submitted for consideration next week. Among them is a proposal authored by Dr. Bruce Shortt and Executive Committee member Roger Moran that calls on the denomination to develop an "exit strategy" from public schools. …
