I have a 2 1/2yr old kiddo who I recently bought a couple of Abeka books/flash cards for. I have: Arts & Crafts with Button Bear for 2s Learning Numbers with Button Bear for 2s Letters and Sounds N (actually for 3s) and Letter Picture flashcards. It looks like according to the online order form the only other things I could get that are not marked (optional) for a 2yr old would be the Child Art for 2s and Number Concept flashcards. I plan to get those. Looking in the Arts & Crafts and Learning Numbers book I see on the bottom where it shows what week, based on the 40 week curriculum, to use that activity. The Arts & Crafts starts at Week 3 and the #'s…

PARENTS, 54 UNIQUE BENEFITS OF HOMESCHOOLING By Joel Turtel April 22, 2008 NewsWithViews.com Parents, is homeschooling the right choice for you and your children? Maybe you think you don?t have the time to homeschool because you work. Perhaps you don?t have confidence in your ability to teach your kids because you never took ?teaching? courses. But consider the alternative. Public schools can destroy your children?s self-esteem, destroy their ability to read, strangle their love of learning, put them in physical and moral danger, and wreck their future. In contrast, here?s 54 unique benefits homeschooling can give you and your kids, as written and explaine…

Is there a 66 book video DVD bible commentary available for sale that teaches every book of the bible in a professional (i.e. non-cartoon, etc) style by a top notch bible teacher that can really bring the meaning of the bible alive for non-believers? I like expositional style preaching, line by line, from Genesis to Revelation, but would consider other formats of preaching. Closest I have found that I like is Calvary Chapel's Skip Heitzig and his video series "The Bible from 30,000 feet" where he covers in depth each book of the bible, not just the spiritual meaning of each book but also the cultural, archeaological, scientific and other aspects of each book to give the b…

I have heard this statement over and over again: "God called us to homeschool." I realize that homeschooling is a means to an end, as in evangelizing your children, discipling them, and training.... Also, I realize that God can definitely lead you in that directions..., but a calling of God?? I have always thought of the calling of God in a full-time ministry, such as preaching, pastoring, evanglism, missions, etc... We started homeschooling because the tuition for Christian schools down here were getting way out of our range. We didn't want to put them in ps, so that was our only other option. Since then, I've realized how God was leading in all of it, and we have…

I'm seriously considering using the DVD program next year for all of my kids. However, the only option for writing in Kindergarten is cursive. Does anyone know if they ever teach manuscript to the children? Additionally, my daughter will be in 1st grade next year. I taught her manuscript this year but the DVD program for next yera is cursive. Is she going to have a problem?

Hello, we have used Abeka materials in the past, tried other things for a few years, and are now coming back to Abeka (it is such a great curriculum!). We have ordered 6 DVD courses that my 15 and 14 year olds will be using (3 courses each - math, science, english). Everything/everybody else will just be the materials with no DVDs. We are using the Independent Option, not the accredited option. My question is, for those who have used the DVD courses in the upper grades, approximately how long does each class (including both DVD and seatwork) take each day? I am trying to work out a basic school schedule and this would help me greatly. Thank you.

What are the writing requirements with regards to Abeka high school? Some programs require an extensive amount of writing: essays, reports, research papers and such while other programs require little to no extensive writing assignments. From looking over their website I can't really determine how much writing papers factors into their program. For the work that must be turned into Abeka for grading, what type of work is most commonly required to be turned in? I would like to learn as much as possible about Abeka high school now that I've moved it up to my potential category.

We were asking around at church about BJU HoneSat, and it turns out several famlies had used it and no longer needed the equipment. We now have the dish and receiver. This week I'm going to try to see if I can get it mounted (we live in a mobile home, so I'm not sure the best way to do that). The instructions seem simple enough, but I'm still wondering what we'd pick up without actually having registered with them yet. Will the set-up get a signal, or do we have to wait until we get enrolled first?

Aerodynamics Experiments to Share with Your Kids By Aurora Lipper, Supercharged Science This article teaches kids about aeronautics and gives a handful of totally fun activities to experiment with for their homeschool science learning (including helicopters, parachutes, and other flying machines). It?s also good for boy scouts working on a badge, or for any kids that love science experiments. These experiments are part of a homeschool science program that I teach, and I promise your kids will love it. Every flying thing, whether it's an airplane, spacecraft, soccer ball, or flying kid, experiences four aerodynamic primary forces: lift, weight, thrust and drag. A…

We're trying to find books, and when I was doing the homeschooling I never needed a teacher's edition, because I knew almost everything they were being taught, and when something occasionally came by I didn't know, I could find it within seconds skimming the reading they had been assigned. This was with Abeka. So with BJU Homesat, are they given assignments every day, and will those need to be graded? Exactly how needed are the teacher's editions in the later years (we'll have kids in 5th, 8th, 9th and 10th)

BROOKLYN, Porn Assignment Canceled After Parents Complain APOhio (Jan. 13) - A high school assignment to research and write about Internet pornography was canceled after parents complained, the school's superintendent said. The 14- and 15-year-old students at Brooklyn High School, outside of Cleveland, Ohio, were asked to research pornography on the Internet and list eight facts about it. They were also asked to write about their personal view toward the subject and their experience with it. Superintendent Jeff Lampert said that although the teacher's goal to discuss the harmful effects of pornography was well-intentioned, he agreed with …

Hi~ I am pretty new to this site. But thank the Lord for finding it. :D I was wondering how many people on this board homeschool their children and what lead you to? I have been homeschooling my 13 dd since she was in the 5th grade. And she starts highschool next year. I also have a 10 dd that attends a small charter school and a 4 ds that I plan on homeschooling next year. I am starting to have serious doubts about keeping the 13 dd at home. She wants to attend highschool. Have any of you gone that route? Just blabbing! :) God Bless and have a Blessed New Year! Amanda

I was thinking of going the unschooling way for my kids. I want to have a cirriculum for Math and Language Arts. What is a normal day of "school" for you? My my biggest concern with unschooling is that they won't be learning what they need to. Thank you for any help. In Christ, Melissa P.S By the way my boys are 11 and 13 years old, in 6th and 8th grade.

Exodus Mandate Applauds ABC 20/20 Special With John Stossel Are American Kids Stupid? That's the question ABC's John Stossel will ask on 20/20 Friday night, January 13, as he describes the academic failure of America's public schools when compared with schools in other industrialized nations. For many years Exodus Mandate has been warning Christian parents and pastors that the government's "public" schools are destroying our children spiritually, morally and academically. Over the last two years many Christian leaders have come to agree that the public schools are indeed cauldrons of spiritual and moral pathologies. For example, the Southern Baptist Convention's lea…

For those of us who have been taking time off for the summer and are soon starting back to school.... What ages or grades are you teaching and what are your plans? I have a 16 yr old (11th) and a 14 yr old (9th). So far....it's Geometry and Algebra I from Teaching Textbooks. English 12th grade from Landmark Freedom Baptist Press and undecided for the 9th grade yet. We usually use Abeka for the history and my oth grader will be doing Apologia Biology. The 11th grader will be doing the online thing for Anatomy and Physiology (I used www.free-ed.net with my two older children and it was great! So we're doing it again.) Anyway Bible and Literature will probably be Abeka.…

Where would I buy (cheap used) bible curriculum for elementary aged kids? We use the charter school system in Ohio, so our taxes pay for our Ohio Virtual Academy. The history lessons are great as they teach history including Biblical history which is great, but we are adding a Bible class to the lessons also. So, where's the best source.
