I attended a funeral today of a young 16year old boy who died a day after he struck by a car on the 29th of November. Thank the Lord he got saved an baptized at our church about 2 years ago! Unfortunately my babysitter's daughter is in the hospital so I was without a sitter but was encouraged to come anyway... that lasted all of 15 minutes. Nonetheless the service was held at a contemporary Baptist church but our pastor officiated the ceremony (Thank the Lord for that as well). The piano player/singer for the church was also playing piano while everyone filtered in to the auditorium and opened the service by playing the piano and singing "I Can Only Imagine." Being a fune…

God Made Music God is the great Maker and creator of music. His LOVE has caused my ears to hear much more beautiful music than what man could ever think of making. Have you ever heard a songbird whistling or tweeting or warbling off key? Nay, but tis nary a bird that does not sing without the purity and tone that is "right on pitch". Have you wondered about the sound of tiny minute little seeds and flower petals being carried about by a soft and gently blowing breeze? How about the sound of trees that are "clapping their hands" and the volume of "the mountains and the hills [that] shall break forth into singing"? Consider what it surely must be like for someone that is de…

Biblical Music: A Pattern and Philosophy by Matthew Walker I've been reading through this book the past few days. Here are some excerpts: "The Bible does lay out a pattern for Christian music that almost all of Contemporary Christian Music does not follow. Instead of using a Bible-based criteria for discerning their musical tastes, many Christians just allow their own particular tastes or likes to determine what is good or bad." this is included in his book, but is an excerpt from Danny Sweatt's book, "Church Music: Sense and Nonsense": "As with anything that God has greatly used, Satan is active to destroy its wholesome influence. He seeks t…

"He Forgets" ---Legacy Five--- The first time he divided the night from the day, He remembers. The first star in heaven he set into place, He remembers. He knows each drop of water that fills up the sea, Like I'm his only child, he remembers me... But he forgets the sins he took to the cross, And when I see I can't pay, He forgets the cost. He knows who I am and all that I've done, But when I come to him and confess, Some way, some how, he forgets. My guilty heart I brought him when I was so lost, I remember. My weakness and all of the trouble I caused, I remember. But in a touch of his mercy, and a moment of grace, The next thing I know, My past is…

I love music that glorifies my Lord Jesus Christ! I am very involed in shape-note gospel singing schools and conventions, and looking to get more involved in it since it is the Lord's will for my life. Where do you go, and what are some of your favourite convention songs??

I haven't watched the Grammy's in over 20 years. I've never really enjoyed watching it; even before I was saved. I finally abandoned and denounced all worldly music 5 years ago when my ears got damaged. I abhor worldly music. However, I wanted to see a bit of what the world is in love with and I decided to look through some of the Youtube videos of this year's Grammy awards. Imagine if hundreds of demons decided to give each other awards and perform for each other, patting themselves, and each other, on their backs for who has introduced more evil into the world. Well, that's what it seemed like I was watching. Some female singer is pregnant, apparently, a…

Come, Thou Fount Robert Robinson and John Wyeth 1 Come, Thou Fount of every blessing, Tune my heart to sing Thy grace; Streams of mercy, never ceasing, Call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, Sung by flaming tongues above; Praise the mount I'm fixed upon it Mount of Thy redeeming love. 2 Here I raise mine Ebenezer; Hither by Thy help I'm come; And I hope, by Thy good pleasure, Safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, Wandering from the fold of God; He, to rescue me from danger, Interposed His precious bl…

Great Speckled Bird (Roy Acuff) What a beautiful thought I am thinking Concerning the Great Speckled Bird; Remember her name is recorded On the pages of pure shining gold. Al the other birds flocking 'round her And she is despised by the squad; But the Great Speckled Bird in the bible Is one with the great church of God. All the other churches are against her They envy her glory and fame; They hate her because she is chosen, And has not denied Jesus' name. Desiring to lower her standard They watch ev'ry move that she makes They try to find fault with her teachings, But they cannot find any mistakes. She is spreading her wings for a journey She is goi…

Mods, please feel free to close this thread if you want. I don't mean to stir up trouble by bringing up a locked topic, but there was a question asked in another thread that was closed about the meaning of a song and I just wanted to clear up some confusion. "The Great Speckled Bird" wasn't written by Roy Acuff (as someone referred to as "some country singer"), but by the Reverend Guy Smith. It is based on Jeremiah 12:9, which says "Mine heritage is unto me as a speckled bird, the birds round about are against her; come ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, come to devour." The passage as a whole tells us that, although the wicked surround God's people, God will …

It is written by Habakkuk as a song, but I only know 2 allusions in hymns - "Revive thy work, O Lord" & "Sometimes a light surprises." It is written for the medieval carol tune "Personent Hodie" God above, we have heard of your works in your Word, now revive in our day works of gracious power in this needy hour. In your wrath O Lord, In your wrath O Lord, In your wrath, yet once more, Lord remember mercy. 2. When God came to our land mighty power in your hand all your tribes marched with you, singing out your glory as they told the story. Mighty shouts of praise, Mighty shouts of praise, Shouts of praise filled the land, made the heathen tremble.…

I posted a new Hymn Video at YouTube of the Hallelujah Chorus. Any theological qualms? Hallelujah! For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. And He shall reign forever and ever. The kingdom of this world is become the kingdom of our God, and of His Christ. King of kings and Lord of lords. Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah!!! God bless all, and a happy Easter always to Easter people-- Chris R.

Those of you that like this beautiful work, which chorus, aria, recitative, etc. is your favorite. The Hallelujah Chorus is probably the most well-known and therefore the most popular but it isn't my very favorite. It would be in the top three, however. My favorites are the choruses: Surely He Hath Borne Our Griefs Hallelujah! Worthy Is The Lamb The Amen section of Worthy Is The Lamb is so majestic and Heavenly!!! :sing:

In case you don't know, this is a song by CCM rock group Delirious? I don't understand why we are digging through the garbage of CCM in order to find music to sing. This is the first "real" CCM song Steve Pettit has put out and if they follow in the footsteps of WCBC, it only goes downhill from here. Here is the original:
