One of our church members attended a funeral service yesterday afternoon, they had the choir from our local Mennoite Chruch, they sang the song, "When We All Get To Heaven," but they sang, "When All The Saved Get To Heaven. I never really gave it no thought, but that song is not scriptural sang as written, unless only saved people are singing it. Had you ever given thought to this?

Memorizing Hymns 1 2
by Jerry- 21 replies

Does anyone else here find it easy to memorize some of your favourite hymns? There are probably a dozen or two I don't even need to look at the hymnal for at all - except for the order of some stanzas. Also, are there any of your favourite hymns where you have the song number memorzed, so that when they say "turn to hymn 256" (for example), you are inwardly saying, "Yes, I love It Is Well With My Soul!" There are a couple I know. As far as hymns memorized, these are the ones I can think of right off the bat: Amazing Grace (Newton) It Is Well With My Soul (Spafford) Alas, And Did My Saviour Bleed (Watts) At The Cross (Watts) All The Way Once For All (Bliss) …

Music without words 1 2
by Ron- 21 replies
- 1.6k views
Here's an interesting topic for discussion: Many people here would agree that music itself is not amoral, which is why several including myself believe you can't put Christian words with bad music and call it pleasing to God. But what about music without words? I'm not talking about instrumentals of hymns and spiritual songs where one can relate to the words by hearing the music alone. But what about something like a beautifully arranged symphony or a tune that may have all the elements of good musical style without words. Because they do not have words uplifting and praising God, does that mean the music is neutral or can it still give glory to God by the musical elemen…

Words and music by hank williams sr. I wandered so aimless life filed with sin I wouldn't let my dear saviour in Then jesus came like a stranger in the night Praise the Lord I saw the light. Chorus I saw the light I saw the light No more darkness no more night Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight Praise the Lord I saw the light. Just like a blind man I wandered along Worries and fears I claimed for my own Then like the blind man that God gave back his sight Praise the Lord I saw the light. Chorus I was a fool to wander and astray Straight is the gate and narrow the way Now I have traded the wrong for the right Praise the Lord I saw the light. …

Yesterday we saw a vehicle that had a bumper sticker that said, "The Lion Of The Tribe Of Judah". This vehicle also had a license plate with the word, "Zion" in it. So we were thinking that the owner of the vehicle was of the Christian persuasion in some way. Then we noticed some small stickers on the window that looked like Alice Cooper w/o the face paint. :o Our immediate thought was, "Those stickers don't go with the bumper sticker and license plate". Upon closer inspection, we saw that the stickers were of a "Christian" rock group. The "artist" looked like a heavy metal druggie. Folks, if there is no difference in how your …

What kind of music instruments do you play??? I want to learn to play a new instrument... I can play the piano and organ I can play the guitar.. although I need more practice, right now I just play it by ear... I took violin and viola lessons in grade school... I thought that I had forgotten, until the other day when I had a chance to play a violin... somehow it all comes back to you... I admit I was very very rusty... but I did remember, and played some things on it. I want to learn to play the harp now!!! It is so beautiful, and it would be a great challenge!

I'm listening to a CD we were given for Christmas last year. It's done by Bronn Journey and his wife. Bronn plays the harp, and his wife accompanies him and/or sings at times. The CD we have is "The River is Wide" and is full of hymns gorgeously done. Their website is here: http://www.bronnjourney.com/index.html The site will automatically play music if your browser is set for that. Otherwise there should be a button you can click on to listen to some. It isn't the best quality sound in comparison the the CD, but you'll get the general idea.

I posted something similar in another, bigger thread, but nobody seems to have noticed, so I'm starting a new thread. The way I understood it is: The drums are OK, but the Rock-style rhythm has something to do with idol worship. Is that correct? I have a few other questions: What about Pop music? There are different types of Pop music as well, some don't even have beat, are those OK? What about Electronica? Techno, Dance, House, etc. has a unique rhythm, known as 4x4 or four to the floor. It usually has a kick every beat, a clap or light snare every second beat, and an off-beat open hat. Nothing like Rock, seems to me, but I know that Techno has a hypnotic effect…

Dancing 1 2

This was something that I was thinking about today. I came across some videos on youtube of Christians doing "body worship," which is named correctly since it is usually focused on the worship and glorification of the body and most often accompanied by rock music. However, the Bible does say, "praise him with the timbrel and dance." There aren't many verses on dance in Scripture and extremely few in the New Testament, half of which are found in the girl dancing before Herod. It does seem, though, that God approves of dancing to glorify Him. Obviously, most dances that claim to worship Him today are just a part of the secularization of Christianity. So, my question is, …

Music that pleases the flesh is ok . . . But what about other forms of entertainment? 1 2
by Mrs Smith- 18 replies

Okay, let me start by saying that I do not listen to worldly music, nor do I approve of it (rock, soft rock, country, rap, hip-hop, r&b, etc). However, I won't lie, and I will admit that the whole "good music, bad music" really, really confuses me. And I have a hard time explaining my stance to friends and family, which leaves me feeling very silly. The only thing I can say for certain, is that "God gave me a conviction to stay away from that music." Which is a good reason!! But at the same time, how do you explain it to someone who doesn't understand? One arguement which I always seem to hear/read, is that worldly music pleases the flesh. It's all about the flesh. …

Tone death 1 2

Is it possible for someone to be truly tone deaf? My husband tells me I am cause he will make a pitch ask me to match it and maybe 1 out of 4 I can, but the other 3 he just laughs at me cause it is no where near what he said. The choir director at our church said it couldn't be possible because I auscultate breath sounds, will 1, I use a stethoscope to listento Breath sounds only have a few different distinctions and pitch isn't one of them. It is either clear, coarse, wheezing (musical pops and whistles) or Stridor ( sounds like rubbing a wash board). pitch isn't involved. Also when I was in the Navy my first school of choice was Electronics Technician ( I love fi…

**This is not an endorsement of everything said by Terry Watkins, but this was in my email and I wanted to pass it on: The following information is excerpted from Bible Guidelines for Music by Terry Watkins, http://www.av1611.org/cqguide.html -- Even the secular, satanic rockers the Rolling Stones admit rock is NOT music -- but NOISE!
