I would like to hear what is thought concerning the different description of the same event in Matt 8 and Luke 7. I ask this because out of the blue (in bed trying to go to sleep), the story, as I remembered it (the Matthew version is what I recalled), came to me and I wondered something rather odd. If the centurion had been a Roman he probably would not speak the same language as Jesus and Jesus (the man) did not speak ?Roman?. So, I wondered if they had been able to communicate by divine intervention on Jesus? part. So I got up and my method of research led me to find the story of the event in Matthew and Luke. Hence my question about your thoughts. Wayne PS - Anyon…

I have started to wonder about death a bit more .I work in a place where older people live . Anyway since I have worked there several of the people have passed away . So my question is people say that you don't die till God wants you to die or they might phrase it some other way . So then does God just say its so and so's time to go or does He just let it happen .

Numbers In The Bible - Day 46 - The Gift Of God Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. (1 Th 4:17) What a day it will be when the Rapture takes place and we meet our Saviour in the clouds forever to be with Him! I long for the day, don't you? I feel that the Rapture is one of Christ's gift to the born-again believer! How precious a gift it is indeed! This picture was taken in Monticello, Virginia, at Thomas Jefferson's home. A storm was coming and the clouds were rolling in. What a beautiful view we had. Mr. Jefferson's home sits on a hill and we …

If you were alive at that time, would you have supported the American Revolution? If so, on what grounds Biblically... if not, same question.

Believe it or not, I have come to the conclusion (drum roll, please) that I should have long hair. I previously fought vehemently against this because I considered it legalism and a form of self-righteousness. Now I see that my cutting my hair was a symbolic rebellion against men in my life controlling me. So this is a big deal for me. And my bangs are in my eyes and driving me crazy. But I'm letting my hair grow as a symbol and crown of my femininity.

Hypothetical: A teen couple is found to be having sex about one year ago. They get caught, admit what they have done is wrong and agree to stop having sex. You are the pastor of the church. You find out that the girl is now pregnant. They want to get married (or at least they think so...) how do you handle the wedding, etc. Since this is hypothetical please just go with the assumptions above until the point you find out she is pregnant. (And where you would do something different up to that point, just point it out... but let's not get too sidetracked from the start.) Some things to consider (in my opinion) are: church discipline: Is it demanded? church wedding: …

Comfort And Strength From Psalm 27 Psalm 27:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Notice how David used personal pronouns throughout this Psalm. The Lord was his light, his salvation, the strength of his life. If there has been a time and place in your life that you received the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour, then these passages apply directly to you also. The Lord is your Light - He is the one that shines His Word on your path, that lightens your way, that enlightens your understanding. Are you following Him? Then, why fear? The Lord is your Salvat…

I recently was involved in something that I would like some Biblical feedback on. It involves our testimony, attitude, and actions in front of non-Christians or lost people. A couple of weeks I had to go to the post office to pick up some packages and there was another person who is a preacher that went with me too. When we arrived to pick up the packages we noticed these 2 Mormons in front of us receiving some things as well. One of them turned to me and said hello extending his hand for me to shake, so I shook his hand and said hello. The other person with me said in a very ugly tone that he was not going to shake the hand of a Mormon. I became extremely uncomfort…

I would really appreciate some input on a situation which I am currently dealing with in my church. Hopefully, I will be able to word this so that ya'll will be able to make sense of it. It may be somewhat long so I ask that you please bear with me. In the past couple of years I have noticed a disturbing trend within the church where I grew up as a teenager and a young college age man. First, let me give you some background on why I feel so strongly about this. Before I came to this church I was going to a dead, apathetic Baptist church. I was saved but I had never heard that Christians were actually suppose to work for their Saviour or that we were suppose to witn…

If I bring up the phrase "Purpose Driven", what immediately comes to you mind? Is it a biblical philosophy? If there is a phrase that I would say represents IFB's it would be "Performance Driven". Historically speaking, are we focused more on behavior modification than discipleship? This is for the purpose of discussion. Let's not pigeon hole each other based on what we post, explore the question, explore possible answers and other possible questions. Is your pastor/church performance driven? What does the phrase mean to you? Perhaps you believe we are not performance driven enough? Let's hear that perspective. Let's talk about this.

Numbers In The Bible - Day 44 - The Perfect Water Of Life It almost seems as though the water is just flowing out of the rocks themselves, doesn't it? [This picture was taken by Carol Meyers at MIT and is used with her permission.] Three times the phrase "water of life" is found in the Word! We were having a discussion about this very topic yesterday at Fundamental Baptist Forum. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. (Rev 21:6) I noticed that Jesus says "It is done" here. It reminded me of when He was given vinegar on the cross and the…

Numbers In The Bible - Day 37 - The Seven Depictions of Christ in Revelation Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. (Rev 3:20) I find the studies on the number seven to have been my biggest blessing thus far. I was looking at the seven churches in Revelation and reflected on how each referenced "saith he" and just who that "he" was. We all know that He is Christ. However, the characteristics used to depict Christ are awesome! 1. Jesus holds His messengers in His right hand and walks in the midst of the church. Rev 2:1 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesu…

Numbers In The Bible - Day 43 - Be Strong And Of A Good Courage Deuteronomy 31:14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thy days approach that thou must die: call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tabernacle of the congregation, that I may give him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the tabernacle of the congregation. Moses was near the end of his life - very soon (within a matter of days) he would be passing off the scene, and Joshua would then lead the nation of Israel into the Promised Land. It was time for Moses to give them (and Joshua) his final words of exhortation and instruction. Seven times in Deuteronomy 31 and Joshua 1, w…

Judgmental 1 2

Why is it those who are very liberal and or those who do not believe in the God of the Bible will so many times say people should not be so judgmental? Is it they do not want their sins pointed out? Do the liberals feel that God does not give no clear commandments on how His children ought to behave? Why is it they feel that a pastor that stands behind the pulpit and preaches against the sins that God declares to be sin, they will say your being judgmental?

I was scanning through the newspaper from back home and came across and article written by our pastor at our church (Marietta Bible Center Church, Dr. Myron Guiler) back home in Marietta,Ohio. I originally posted this in the lounge, but not many people took time to read it. It really touched my heart, and I thought it might do the same for someone here. Because of the Cross, Bob Wilson Thoughts of Faith: ?It is well? when we truly submit to God In 2 Kings 4:26 we read three simple words that are full of substance. ?It is well.? This was the simple answer of the Shunammite woman to Gehazi?s questions, ?It is well with thee? Is it well with thy husband? Is it w…

Numbers - Day 40 - My Seven Favourite Verses 2 Peter 1:3-4 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. Of course, this promise about God's promises giving us all we need to live for His glory in this world is also one of my favourite ones too! God's promises are for God's children - to enable them to live right in this dark world! If you are a child of God, …

In a couple of threads, the verse "abstain from all appearance of evil" has been brought up. Its found in I Thess 5:22. Even a few weeks ago, I used this verse in a discussion, and a friend pointed out that he did not think it meant what I did. Since then, a rather lengthy discussion on the topic has ensued, and I have done a bit of personal study on this verse. I must say, I do not think it means what it sounds like it does. This is one of those times when English is rather unclear. Part of me wants to say its poorly translated. In another group I would say so, but to arrive at teh same conclusion and still hold to the "perfection" of the KJV is completely doa…

God is not the author of confusion. Are there sources, other than Satan, that can be the author of confusion?

Ezra 4:23 'Now when the copy of king Artaxerxes' letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.' A good number of the Israelites had gone back to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple. They had several adversaries around them who were doing their very best to stop the work. They were willing to do just about anything to keep God's people from completing their task. They went so far as to fabricate lies against the Jews to get the king to stop their work. In our text verse we see that they were more than happy to pass on the word of the king commandin…

I understand the basic of God calls people is to be repentence, be saved, be baptize, be disciples, and be holy. My question is how do you know God calls you to be in the specific ministry such as a pastor, missionary, evangelism, and teacher? How do you know God calls you to a certain location where God wants you to be in? For example some bible believers was called by God to be a certain position and go a certain location then it was successful. Praise the Lord!! :yippee: Some of those bible believers thought God called them to be a certain position and go to a certain locations then it was failure. This cause them confuse what was God's purpose for them to be…

Numbers In The Bible - Day 42 - The Son Of God There is only one path to Heaven. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is the only way. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (Joh 14:6) My husband took this picture when we were camping. I loved it because both paths are similar. However, one path is more narrow than the other. You can look down another path and think it is the right way, but the Word says it is the wrong way. There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. (Pro 16:25) If Heaven were entered by many paths (like the statement all roads lead to Rome), then…

John made me think of this, I meant to post a question about this sometime back. We know that when one is living in sin, hiding sin, God will only hear a prayer of repentance from that person. 18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: Psalms 66:18 (KJV) False teaching is a sin. So what are you thoughts about those false teaching churches out there, is God accepting their worship and listening to their prayers.
