The sermon makes it pretty clear and obvious about what is being said. If you want to take it another way than it was given then that is on you. -

Very similar to what the Catholics do: "Mary is my mother. She is your mother, too. Before Jesus died on the cross, He saw Mary and one of His disciples before Him. He said to Mary, “Woman, behold your son.” To His his disciple He said, “Behold, your mother.” (from John 19: 26 and 27) He assigned this disciple (John) to watch over and protect Mary. The Catholic Church also looks at this event as Jesus giving Mary to all believers as our Mother. She is also the Mother of the Church". (T -

I'm not stretching the scriptures. I'm simply applying one aspect of them in the context of what the passage of Proverbs is teaching. Its the same vein as Paul's allegory and in context of proverbs 1's promise that the scriptures provides more as you carefully study it more. -

The "Word of God" not literally our Mother yet there is plenty of sense to consider the scripters, The Bible, as such in the context of Spiritual mothers. The Word of God comes to us from our "spiritual mother" Jerusalem and teaches us the word of God just as the scripters teach us His word. In the context of Proverbs it is not necessary to spend too much time developing this concept but its there for anyone to consider treating the scripters, The Bible, as type of "Spiritual mother" who nourish -

There is nowhere in the Bible that the Word of God is referred to as our spiritual mother.

I don't believe anyone here has said to conduct church discipline during a communion service, and you're correct, that wouldn't be the place to conduct such an action. Usually people are notified by the pastor or the deacons concerning any action towards reconciling the offending Christian to the body (local church).
