Pleasing God & Peace

Proverbs 16:7, “Pleasing God & Peace.”

Proverbs 16:7, “When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.”

God can give peace to a person, or a nation, or He can take away peace from a person, or a nation. Isaiah 45:6 & 7, “That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else. I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.”

Most people seek peace through worldly and physical pleasures. Most people love pleasure more than God and sometimes the saints love pleasure more than God. 2 Timothy 3:4, “Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God.”

When a person pleases God than God can give that person peace. God wants us to give us peace in our hearts. The Lord Jesus said, John “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” In the early church, the disciples were persecuted severely for their faith in Christ and in the ages since that time, more persecution arose from various false religions and leaders. In the midst of these persecutions, the Lord Jesus gave these people peace.

Even though we sometimes have problems and difficulties, the Lord Jesus can give us peace in our hearts. We need to learn how to please God. Colossians 1: 9 & 10, “For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.” That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God.”

God can give us peace in our hearts and peace among our enemies if we please him.

I want to thank Rebecca Young for the following photo. John 16:33 is one of my favorite verses and I do hope that the words of the Lord Jesus, and the the photo, is a blessing to your heart.

I have no idea how I missed this devotion back in November (no, I no longer go anywhere for Thanksgiving so I wouldn't have been "busy" as most are during that time).  I apologize! This is an excellent devotion, brother Alan. One of my all time favorite verses is in regard to peace.

Philippians 4:7 " And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."   This verse I pray often in thankfulness to the Lord. This most wonderful peace He instills in our hearts through Jesus to keep our hearts and minds... this most precious peace which truly is beyond all understanding and human comprehension, has  sustained me through many many difficult trials in life. I often wonder how a non-believer can possibly cope with so many of life's struggles without this peace in our hearts and minds! It could be why the suicide rate is so high among the worldly... the cares of this world can easily creep in unless we have the Lord's perfect peace in our hearts and minds through Jesus. It's not even something I can explain to an unbeliever... but I do try to tell them about it when witnessing to them. Such thankfulness for the peace of God. Also I am at a loss for words to describe how deeply this verse touches me.  I also love John 16:33, and it also is a huge comfort to know that Jesus has overcome this world, and we (in Him) can overcome as well.  Through tribulation, suffering, trials, and hard times... the indescribable peace of God keeps our hearts and minds when we place our full trust in Him.  2nd only to salvation in Christ, the peace of God comforting my heart and mind is what I am next most thankful for.

Again, a wonderful devotion. Amen and amen again!

I, like Ronda, have no idea how I missed this wonderful devotion Alan.

What a wonderful blessing to be reminded of the peace that passes all understanding, the peace that can only come from God above.

Thank you Alan, and may God richly bless you as you serve Him.

I just wanted to come back and say that I have noticed that sermons and devotionals do not always show up as new content when they are posted. This one by Alan was done in November and just showed up in my unread content today. I also noticed this on some of my sermons too, they show as unread content much later than I post them. Must be some sort of glitch in programing.

YES! Brother Jim... I do not see these in the "activity" threads until someone makes a comment on one.  This started happening a few months ago, when some sort of "update" was done.

Sister Ronda,

John 16:33 is also one of my favorite verses.

Bro. Foley,

Thank you for those kind words.

It is a joy  to my heart that these devotions bring a blessing to those who read them.

What if one reason for suffering is for all believers to unite and pray together loving each other and glorify and love God and Jesus. With lot of people together it is easier to make good changes in this world in God's name. Then others will want to join too.

It also makes people rely in God and make you want to help others more after experiencing their pain.

If God answers my prayer now then I will surely tell others of God's goodness and love and seek to help others who suffer with new positivity that with God's help anything is possible.

Many times when someone is mean to you and harms you and you love them and pray for them it works. Maybe always but sometimes it just take long time and you may never know it.

I wish all people could live in peace together and love God and all others and take good care of nature and animals. I believe that when you love God then that is what you want in your heart.

Lila,

Thank you for your comments. Suffering for the cause of Christ does unite fellow saints.

Your comments reminded of the words of Paul when he said, "And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it." 1 Corinthians 12:26

Thank you again for your comments.

    • I Believe all Churches should preach the Bible Verse by Verse & Chapter by Chapter on Sundays & Everyday and not anything else but Bible teaching. I believe Bible study should be what all Church congregations and fellowship is all about. Growing up has a Catholic walking to church each Sunday and to CCD every Saturday myself,  along with my siblings and being taught one to two lines only in one of the books in the Holy Bible? When the time came for the priest to talk about the Gospel Of Matthew, John or Luke etc. Teaching us one verse and talked on that one verse from the Bible for about 10-15 minutes only? If I were to stay in the Catholic Church and was being preached to about the Gospel this way until this very day? I would never have learned the Truth about anything in the Holy Bible!  Meaning to say: Has a Catholic? We didn't have to bring a Bible to Church with us. Naturally, I wouldn't have known any better since this is all I knew growing up has a Catholic. BUT, My Life Completely Changed around in 2003 onward. Years ago, I started listening to "One of the best Pastors in the world who was teaching the Bible Chapter by Chapter and verse by verse!" I was in Awe of the truth I was longing for! My Thirst was being fulfilled! I learned more in 6 weeks timing with this congregation teacher of the Holy Word than from any other Priest, Pastor Minister or any other teacher after being a Catholic for 16 years!  Then come to find out? I discovered I was lied to and not told the truth while growing up about many things that were covered up in "God's Holy Letter to "the Entire World!" a coverup about the true story of Adam & Eve I was taught by the Catholic Church. There were so many things I never knew about in the Holy Bible from being a Catholic. So, one day I Prayed to God asking God asking God "if I could Change from being a Catholic  to a Christian or A Student of His Holy Letter?" This is why I feel strongly that it's high time "ALL CHURCHES NEED To Start Teaching only what the Bible is all about & the meaning of every parable and what each word means & teach people how to Pray and use the Bible for understanding and Wisdom and to prepare us all for the coming times ahead which will come! All teachers need to be very clear on all their teachings of the Bible!  And to start doing this Bible teaching NOW! ASAP! The times are so bad right now all over the world. All Churches should be teaching About God's Holy Gospel Truth & stop talking about everything else! I've been in churches where they'd be passing the collection plate around 3 to 4 times during their service! Or they'd make you get up and put your money in a basket or on a plate 3 or more times right in front of the Pastor. Making you feel guilty if you didn't give enough paper money! This is so wrong on many levels! Yes, we should give to the church of choice that your being taught the truth from has a discerned Christian being taught the Truth of God's Holy Word only! I do believe if a Church teaches just the holy word only through the Holy Bible Only? The Churches would be packed with People who want to hear More & More of God's Holy Divine Word of truth to quench their thirst! Man is now interpreting the Bible & abolishing the Old Testament and making everything in the Bible in which God's against to be Void and Null and everything is welcomed to be done on earth now! As if nothing is off limits in this day and age! Everything goes. Man is rewriting the Holy Word!   The Pastor I was taught of God's Holy Word Chapter by Chapter & Verse by Verse?   He has never taken "One Single Dime for preaching the Holy Word his entire life explaining what every single word in the KJV meant in the Holy Bible every single day! I learned so very much from him I've come to love him as a preacher in so many ways. Teaching Millions of people every day!  The best teacher in this world I ever came across! I was so very Blessed to have known him & be taught the Truth of God's Holy Word through him. My End thoughts: I really believe we are wasting time if we're not taught the Word of God only. We should all be Discerned Christians and not be followers but leaders and do the research of everything said to us by any man whose teaching the word of God from anywhere! Amen!
    • Daniel, Thank you for bringing out Romans 5:20, "Moreover, the law entered, that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound." Romans 5:20 was a welcomed addition to this devotion on the kindness of God. Alan
    • Good message on how the scriptures condemns our sin and convicts us of our sin, and explains how the true saint will repent of known sin in his life.
    • Thanks for the devotional, Jim! And I stand by every word you have said. Anyone who has truly been born-again through the shed blood of Jesus Christ will in no doubt have the light of life dwelling within them -- and that light can be seen among those who they come in contact with. What grieves me is that there are so many false converts who have prayed a prayer so that they might be saved; but their sole reason for calling upon the Lord was so that they might escape hell; or they simply desired Eternal life. And what these false converts miss is genuine repentance; and turning to the Lord with a true broken and contrite spirit. Their tree is barren of any fruits of the Spirit, and completely devoid of any sort of conformity to the image of Christ. Christians are supposed to stand out above the rest of the world by their new nature being manifest in their actions; and sadly . . . there are MANY professing Christians who continue to walk in darkness and are no different than the rest of the unbelieving world -- and sometimes even worse. All of us need to do a spiritual inventory and examine ourselves if we have truly been born again (2 Cor. 13:5; 2 Pet. 1:10-11). If we don't express Divine love, then all the "good deeds" amount to nothing -- and are done in vain; because they are not done through the power of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 13:2). God Bless!
    • There are always unbelievers who attack the God of the Old Testament, and accusing Him of being some sort of tyrant. What they fail to realize is that the God of the OT is the SAME God of the NT. God's righteous indignation was poured out on those who hated God and despise His ways. Furthermore, we find that the more sin abounded, God's Grace also flourished (cf. Rom. 5:20) -- especially in the Incarnation of the Son of God. God less!
    • Being content with what we have is a sure sign that we are living for Christ and not for ourselves; and it's also indicative of a humble person who is aware that God is giving us what is best for us to mature in our spiritual growth.
    • Thanks for the devotional, Jim! It really gets my blood boiling once Christmas season begins. It's all about what sort of presents will I be receiving; instead of the Greatest gift that God the Father purchased for us: His One and Only Son who bore our sins on the Cross. This world is becoming more paganized as the Coming of the Lord draws near! God Bless!
    • Thank you for posting this, Jim! We know that TRUE Christianity is the ONLY "religion" that is not based on "human achievement" -- but through the imputed righteousness from Christ as you pointed out very well. I am exasperated by all these "cults" that attempt to attain a righteous standing before God on their own merit; not knowing that their "righteousness" is nothing more than a menstrual cloth in God's sight. Matthew 7:21-23 gives an example of those who call Jesus lord, and then "boast" about their works (v.22); such false converts like SDA's, Jehovah's Witness, and Mormons will be in for a rude awakening on that day. Their "works" are nothing more than an "abomination" unto our Lord and God -- and a stench in His nostrils. God Bless!
    • Daniel, I am glad that you like the song, "In the Garden," and the photo. Brethren, I do like to have a good song, and photos, that I can place in my devotions. If you have a favorite song, or a website that features songs that you like, please let me know. Alan
    • The more often we submit ourselves to the will of God, the more we become sanctified through His truth. This brings about spiritual growth and obedience to His commandments -- and separation from the world. This also draws us nearer to Him -- and as a result, we become conformed and transformed to His likeness and treasure the things which He loves -- and despise the things that He despises.
