He May Be A Levite, But...
A person once posed the question, "If we did a bloodline test, and it proved my pastor is a descendant of Levi, is he eligible to receive tithes?"
Bloodline test, DNA, genealogy,... any other evidence that would prove your pastor in "yourcity, planet Earth", is a Levite still would not excuse him from preaching the lie that God requires tithes of money.
There is not one single command in the Word of God for money to be tithed. If your pastor IS a Levite, the only tithe he would have been qualified to receive are tithes of agricultural nature... ACCORDING TO THE LAW. I said, "would have been", because Hebrews 7:18 tells us that the command for Levites to take tithes has been cancelled. Notice:
Hebrews 7:18 For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
What commandment was the author speaking of? The commandment to take tithes of their brethren according to the Law.
Hebrews 7:5 And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:
In AD 66, God said the commandment to take tithes was weak and unprofitable. It was beneficial for a time, but the economy was different in AD 66. Tithes were no longer needed.
By the way, the Law did not just say Levites were to recieve the agricultual tithe, it said where they were to receive it... in the land of promise. (see Deuteronomy 12:1-18 ) USA is not the Levite's "land of promise" That land is in an entirely different location altogether. Levites were not authorized to receive tithes in America, Germany, Italy, Norway, North Pole, South Pole, or any point in between except the land promised to their fathers.
