About this sermon

The Proverbs were compiled for two reasons. The first was to teach the Youth and simple people practical wisdom and advice for daily living. The second was to teach the wise and aged people to understand hard and dark sayings and to teach advanced Spiritual matters. This was done by intricately weaving and distilling grand themes of scripture into simple practical sayings called proverbs. When received they could be used by the simple to keep safe and prosper in a harsh and difficult world and by the wise they could be meditated upon to know the mind and nature of God.

In this we also see how the Book of Proverbs sets the foundation of biblical hermeneutics and proper methods in studying the allegorical meanings of the scripture without divorcing it form their proper context and meanings. In the proverbs we learn how Parables, Proverbs, Signs, Allegory and other dark bible sayings are formed and developed by the Prophets and Apostles of old.

Are You Righteous or Wicked? (Getting in balance with God, Proverbs 11:4-11)

When God balances the world on his scales of justice where will you be found? Will you be found without fault, or will you be found wanting? Will you be rewarded with the righteous or punished with the wicked? In this sermon we deal with these crucial questions and show how imperfect people such as us can not only be fond righteous but also thrive in holiness before God. We also show how we can influence our world for Good and have eternal benefits in the life to come rather than merely survivin

Just Weights and Measures (In balance with God, Proverbs 11:1-3)

Equilibrium with God and His ways in life and nature is crucial for lasting success. In this message we look at the importance of just weights and measures in everyday life and also the active involvement God has in approving and rejecting false balances in life. We also see the principle of true balance goes beyond the marketplace and is also part of a proper social and moral life with society and society's relationship with God. We see God requires that mankind must maintain a righteous and ju

Faithfulness Determines Your Yield (Proverbs 10:24-32)

Knowing we will reap what we sow, Solomon encourages us to diligently and faithfully sow things that will last into eternity rather than wasting time on things that will not last. He also cautions us to sow wholeheartedly in the prescribed way so that we can get the full reward of our labors. In this passage he contrasts those who sow correctly with those who sow in the wrong ways. He shows us that if we are faithful to the ways of God we will have joy and strength for the work and enjoy many ye

God's Method of Seed Management (Proverbs 10:14-23)

A good farmer will have a threefold sure method of receiving, storing and sowing seed in order to maximize the growth of a cash crop every year. It is not a mystical or misterios process. So too it is with God's seed (the Word of God) being planted year after year to bring forth a large and Godly crop for years to come. For the local church to survive and grow year after year, it must follow God's plan for managing his good Seed, which includes proper: Receiving and Selecting, Storing and Mainta

Be A Farmer Not Just A Fighter (Proverbs 10:6-13)

If Christians only have a warrior mentality and are not diligent for the harvest then no matter how skillful we are with our words the church will starve. It is very critical to always be mindful for the harvest by sowing, nourishing and growing each other with our words rather than fighting and tearing at each other. A true Son of God will always be a caring farmer first and a farmer who can fight second, taking care never to hurt the crop in the process of trying to defend it from harm. In thi

Diligent For The Harvest (Being A Wise Son, Proverbs 10:1-5)

As Christians we have been given the task of the Great Commision. In his direction Christ showed us how we are to go about our task is similar in the way a farmer and his family prepares their fields for the Harvest. Such a task does not happen by accident but rather requires a diligent hand focused on the task. In this passage we see that the results of our task is no arbrtachary but rather is corrilated with the effort we put into it to get the expected harvist results that we want. Those that

Wisdom is Nature's First Law (Proverbs 8:12-36)

Life at it's source is founded upon and intrinsically linked with Wisdom. It is the spirit which God underlaid all of the natural laws which causes the physical world to function. To know wisdom is to know how the world and life itself, is set up to work naturally. In this we learn that if we model our life after the fundamental principles of wisdom then we will by this principle be completely in tune with how God wishes us to live to our fullest extent.

The Spirit of Wisdom (Hear her cry! Proverbs 8:1-21)

Learning to recognize the traits and character of true wisdom is key to discerning between it and the many false and flawed "siren song" voices of this world which seek to distract us from the true path of life. Once we can truly recognize her, we then can make her our own. In this sermon we show her true nature and the many benefits given to those who have appropriately applied her to their lives. Proverbs 8:1-21 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? 2 She standeth in

Two Types of Women (Their path, Proverbs 7, Part 3)

Every woman has a choice in life to make and The Path that they take will determine the outcome of their life. They have two paths they can take. The path of the Strange Woman (Proverbs Chapter 7) or the path of the Virtuous Woman (Proverbs Chapter 31). In this sermon we contrast the two so that each woman can see the indicators in their own life to see what path they are on and so that the can correct their ways to get fully on the virtuous path and to avoid the traps of the Strange woman who's

The Strange Woman (Selfish Living, Proverbs 7, Part 2)

Always seeking to gain everything you want (or imagine that you want) without ever truly knowing others or investing yourself deeply into your present life will result in an unsatisfied life. The spirit of the uncontented heart lusting for something real in imaginary fantasies can never obtain because the person caught in it is never willing to build on present realities. Forever the stranger, her longing becomes the source of death for all who try to know her for any length of time as she will

A Simple Man (Prepared to Fail, Proverbs 7, Part 1)

A lot of "good" but simple men and women run into many common but easily avoidable troubles in life (relationship drama, financial issues, marital problems, divorce, single parents, venereal diseases, endangerment, etc) and have no idea why they ran into these failures.  They often are surprised when it happens yet scripture shows us the results are 100% predictable based on the paths in life they chose and are avoidable with just a little bit of active wisdom and discernment applied along

Using Covenants (Benefits and Dangers, Proverbs 6:20-35)

Binding Covenants are powerful unions between partners that are mutually beneficial yet also come with detrimental consequences if they are violated. In this passage Solomon shows the benefits and importance of binding the correct things to one's self and uses the difference between Fornication and Adultery, and theft to show how violating those covenants, whither your own or someone else's, is not something a wise person should do.   (Preached Sunday Evening, 3-26-2023, by Pastor John Youn

Work Ethics For Lasting Wealth (Proverbs 6:1-19)

Making and retaining wealth is a major concern of many and the scriptures show us in this passage (in addition to the previous passage on ownership) some foundational principles on keeping that weath and putting it to good work for us. In particular the passage warns against making third party agreements (where you have no control of the terms) such as guaranteeing other people's debts, taking out loans or if indebted to resolve it quickly, etc. It speaks of being your own boss by being the type

Take Ownership of Living Waters (Proverbs 5:15-23)

Understanding Ownership is the most important key principle that will determine the course of your life, whither you will live in freedom and joy or in bondage and sorrow. Not only just any ownership but ownership of "water sources" or "fountain heads of life" will determine the level of strength and power you will have in life. Finally we take ownership to the next level by discussing ownership of "living waters" (the things that makes life worth living), for without it life loses purpose and f

Beware! Strange Wisdom and Women (Proverbs 5 :1-14)

Generational wisdom and good women often go hand in hand. So too does strange wisdom and strange women have similar characteristics and results. In this passage King Solomon uses the strong allure of harlotry and uses it to teach discretion in discerning whether wisdom is good or bad depending on its true results and effects on the person who pursues it. In this message we show how true wisdom is knowable, rewarding and enhancing to us. In contrast, the strange wisdom promises quick pleasure and

Choosing The Right Path In Life (Proverbs 4:14-27)

The "Path of the Righteous" and "Path of the Wicked" are contrasted in this passage. Ensuring we set our children onto the right path early in life will help keep them from falling into things that lead to destruction, misery and eternal death. Not only will our guidance save them but it will put them on the path leading to wisdom, righteousness, Spiritual light, and everlasting life. In addition to choosing the right path we also show the value of being active in developing the opportuniti

Fathers need to Diligently Teach (Proverbs 4:1-13)

Generational teaching from father to son will produce a constant product if the father is diligent. If they do not have any quality control in their life then neither will their children.  (Preached Sunday Evening, 2-19-2023, by Pastor John Young, at Maranatha Bible Baptist Church, 16990 S 38th St, Mendon, MI 49072, Between Fulton and Menden in Wakeshma Township, Near Kalamazoo and Battle Creek in South West Michigan, https://www.facebook.com/MbbcFulton) Proverbs 4 - Hear, ye children,

Wisdom Makes Life Happy and Easy (Proverbs 3:13-35)

The unexpected happenstances of our life often causes distress, sorrow, and worry. Life is often hard and full of struggles and unexpected obstacles that do not seem to be easy to overcome, which constantly affects our joy. Yet, with just a little bit of wisdom much of life's issues are alleviated and become of no real concern. Have Godly Character & Integrity (Proverbs 3:1-12)

Having right character and integrity will ensure a strong foundation for all our interactions (Relationships) and determinations (carefully choosing right decisions for life). Many of the issues in life often stem from the fact that many have not properly determined and solidified their Godly character and their resolution to hold on to it. In this sermon we show what makes character Godly and how not to deviate from it when pressured to do so. (Preached Sunday Evening, 2-05-2023, by Pastor

Be God Fearing (To Get Every Good Path, Proverbs 2)

Set befor every young person are many paths of life that can lead to good or evil, life or death. In determining our path of life God observes every decision we make and fashions our path accordingly (Psalm 33:10-15). God will give the humble wisdom and understanding to be able to chose every good path in life and be protected from the dangers ahead. Yet we are to fear Him because if we become proud or arrogant by forsaking our father or mother or His revealed wisdom then He will leave us to our

The Cry Of Wisdom (A Good Wife, Proverbs 1:20-33)

The getting of Wisdom is the greatest task of every young person. In this passage we see the getting of good wisdom alluded to as a young man getting a good and wise wife to help him succeed in every important task in life. In this sermon we show how three types of men reject wisdom (the Simple, the Scorner, and the Fool) and how they are destroyed because of their failure in choosing, marrying, and caring for wisdom as a man does with his good wife. The Way of Sinners and Evil Gangs (Proverbs 1:7-19)

The greatest fear of every parent is that their children will go down the wrong path by the enticement of the wrong people. Yet the child in ignorance and innocence is often enticed by those people and things which seem good to them at first yet will end in destruction of their life and soul. In this sermon we show the warning signs of those wrong paths and people who take them. In this we see that the Sinner's Path is always the same and the end result on the soul is always the same no matter w

Obeying Your Fathers and Mothers (Proverbs 1:7-10)

Obedience to your parents as children is a fundamental building block in the childhood of any person. On the practical level this passage emphasizes the importance of obeying the instruction and boundaries good parents can instill into their children as they grow. Yet also, on a deeper level, the passage challenges the wise to recognize our Spiritual Father (God) and Mother (The Scriptures).  In all this we see also the importance to have good parents to be instructed by because who our par
