About this sermon

The Proverbs were compiled for two reasons. The first was to teach the Youth and simple people practical wisdom and advice for daily living. The second was to teach the wise and aged people to understand hard and dark sayings and to teach advanced Spiritual matters. This was done by intricately weaving and distilling grand themes of scripture into simple practical sayings called proverbs. When received they could be used by the simple to keep safe and prosper in a harsh and difficult world and by the wise they could be meditated upon to know the mind and nature of God.

In this we also see how the Book of Proverbs sets the foundation of biblical hermeneutics and proper methods in studying the allegorical meanings of the scripture without divorcing it form their proper context and meanings. In the proverbs we learn how Parables, Proverbs, Signs, Allegory and other dark bible sayings are formed and developed by the Prophets and Apostles of old.
