Did JacOB really promise to give God a tenth of all his belongings?
JacOB made a vow, saying, "Of all thou shalt give me, I will surely give a tenth."
Interesting vow, which was not fulfilled by JacOB himself, but by his offspring. God promised to give JacOB the land JacOB was on.
Genesis 28:13-15 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; And thy seed s
Proverbs 22:22-23 ROB not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them. Malachi 3:5 And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me,
“Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s, and unto God that which is God’s.” Matthew 12:21
The above statement made by Jesus to the scribes and Pharisees is often taken out of its context and used by pastors and laymen alike, in an attempt to prove that God requires tithe of money from the Church member today.
But, when read in context with the entire discourse, and rightly dividing the Word of Truth, it is easy to see that Jesus was not endorsing a monetary tithe at all. Nor was He saying
And there was war in Heaven: God opposed the Holy Spirit.
Wait a minute!! What Bible are you reading from? Where is that found in the Bible?
Now that I've got your attention, ...
The answer my friends, is it is found, not in the Bible, but rather it is found in the pulpits of many Churches around the world today.
Oh, the preacher may not use those exact words. But he might as well use them. Those words are no different than than the words he speaks when he tells his congregation that
Exodus 20:2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
You think that there is no captivity in sin? Are you unequal/unjust/unrighteous with people? Engaged in premarital sexual relations or married and having relations with others or lusting after men or women other than your spouse? Do you corrupt God's law as explained in the King James Bible in your actions? Do you have a strong desire for things that you don't posess? Do you do thi
Suppose you are a young adult male who works for a company that has a CEO and a superintendent over you.
One day, the CEO tells you that you are no longer to come to work on Tuesdays; that only females are allowed to work that day.
Later that day, the superintendent calls you into his office and tells you you are expected to work for four hours every Tuesday.
Who do you OBey? Would you not go to the CEO to get the confusion straightened out?
Well, look at God as the CEO and the pastor as
Malachi 3:8-12 Will a man rOB God? Yet ye have rOBbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we rOBbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have rOBbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your
It is a Biblical fact that we have Scripture that commands tithing to Levites, but not one single Scripture that states one is to tithe to a pastor, elder, or bishop of a New Testament Church.
Hebrews 7:8 And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.
Here, men that die receive tithes. Who are the men that die that receive tithes? The sons of Levi…
Hebrews 7:5 And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of th
“When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick.”
(Matthew 8:16 KJV)
This verse emphatically states Jesus healed ALL individuals who were brought unto Him. This verse clearly tells me God can absolutely heal any physical, mental, spiritual sickness on this earth today if it be in His will to do so by prayer. We do serve the same God today who walked upon the ground in fles
A sure key to successful Christian life lay here in these 7 verses. I had a man once tell me, “Those books are for Pastors” I think over the years as many try to systematically teach doctrine they have inadvertently caused a separation of Church leadership and layperson, something the Bible was truly never meant to do. In every instance of Christ's teaching he tried to show the leaders were no better than the followers, as a matter of fact Paul taught that they were of a higher accountability be
Shortly after leaving Egypt Abraham returned back to the land God brought him to a land filled with people of the world and its influences. And what did he do? Well lets look. Gen 12: 7, 8 And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him. And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an a
I will pray says the son (intercession)
I will send says the Father (bestowment)
I will comfort says the Holy Spirit (that is supernatural peace)
Trinity was designed by the Father, bought by the life-giving blood of His Son, and protected, or sealed, by the workings of Holy Spirit. It is a down-payment of Heaven for whosoever will grasp onto this triune relationship, a foundation firmly planted in love with God, while living in this world amongst much wickedness and darkness.
The real sp
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” (Romans 12:1) This verse contains an imperative, imploring or commanding statement calling for holy living. It calls for us to live a sanctified and set apart life acceptable according to god’s holy standards. God is beseeching, or begging, His spiritual children to live sacrificially unto Him, not unto man and the standards
There is a doctrine being circulated today amongst Christians that Melchizedek of Genesis chapter 14 was actually a Christophany. That is, a pre-incarnate appearance of Jesus Christ.
Many base this doctrine on a passage in Hebrews that states Hebrews 7:2-3 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of d
1 Peter 4:1-4 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: Wherein they thi
Who is Melchezedek?
The name Melchezedek is made up of smaller words collectively meaning “my king is righteous” and is name that echoes an individual who has both kingly and priestly functions. In the Hebrew Bible He is the first individual to be given the title Kohen, or the Hebrew word for priest. The Law of Moses stipulated only the male descendants of Aaron would be commissioned to serve as Jewish priests before the God of Israel and the Jewish nation. This commission is believed in Ju
Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. John 7:24
This verse from the book of John clearly indicates there is such a thing as righteous judgment. Often we hear remarks made such as “judge not lest you be judged, or “take the own mote out of your eye first.” These remarks come from good well-meaning individuals who are loosely quoting scripture often out of biblical context, not always regarding proper circumstances and intent Jesus had for judging with righteou
Three elderly gentlemen are sitting on a park bench.
#1: It's windy today.
#2: No, today is Thursday.
#3: So am I. Let's go get a drink from that fountain.
#1: I don't want to sing on the mountain.
#2: What did you say was sinful sounding?
The three men in the illustration enjoyed each others company that windy day. Yet because they were not listening carefully to one another's words, their words were lost with each other.
So it is with many people today.
Hebrews 2:1 Therefore we ou
When teaching tithes , many teachers like to point out that tithing was mentioned before the Law.
But when teaching the tithe, many fail to teach the Scripture's account of the tithe. Instead, they teach an account that was invented by man in the late 8th Century A.D..
There was a tithe prior to the Mosaic/Levitic Law, but Hebrews records that there was a changing of the Law.
What was that change? Well, Melchizedek received tithes in Abram's day. But when the Law was handed down to Mo
Can you point to any verses indicating the Lord’s work was ever maintained or sustained through acquiring debt in scripture? A church loaded with debt is not necessarily provision from God or answers to prayers of a well-intentioned congregation bent on being benevolent.
A financial song and dance routine is trending in countless churches today. Many congregations are struggling in the financial arena. Offering plates are coming back from the aisles often lighter as some professing Christi
Discrimination is Nothing New
Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. John 4:9 The Jews and Samaritans were living in opposition and hatred towards one other. This tension was a mix of religious, social, territorial opposition and disdain for one another. This disrespect and social shunning often escalated into what would be considered discrimination and hate
“But there are some of you that believe not.For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.” (John 6:64-66)
These particular verses in the book of John are among some of the saddest verses written. From all indications and appearance, the twelve disciples a
"The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones, And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry. And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord GOD, thou knowest. Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. Thus saith the L
I added more information concerning this topic today, and corrected some grammatical errors; I also made some mistakes by leaving out certain cross references that needed to be added, but hopefully they are corrected.
"For it is impossible for those who were once [enlightened], and have [tasted of the heavenly gift], and were made [partakers of the Holy Ghost], And have [tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come], If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame." (Hebrews 6:4-6)
There will come a point in every person's heart where they will NEVER repent and accept the message of the
I am glad to hear that the devotion was a blessing to you. As with many other saints, the life, the character, and the moving incidents in the life of Joseph, are an inspiration.
Throughout the life of Joseph, we can see God moving His hand in the life of Joseph to use him for the deliverance of the Jewish race, the deliverance of the Egyptians, and we can see the character of Christ.
Truly, Romans 8:28 is evident in Joseph's life, "And we know that all things work together
