Westboro Baptist Church is planning on picketing the Oscars on Feb 24 in Los Angeles California. Westboro Baptist Church has claimed that they have protested 63,540 events during a stretch of 1443 weeks. Westboro is know to picked events such as American soldier funerals, weddings, high schools, sporting events, and many other public events. They are known for their hate speech and crude methods of protesting.
Megan Phelps-Roper, the granddaughter of the founder of Westboro Baptist Church has since left the church and made these comments after leaving.
"I didn't believe fundamentally that what we were doing was right," Phelps-Roper said. "I didn't think it was godly. I didn't think that it was the best that I could do as a human being."
Since leaving the church, Megan has become an activist for civil discourse and public speaking, traveling to many colleges across the country.
It is unknown the purpose or the plan of the protest at the Oscars. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
