I would like to know what everyones favorite thing to make homemade. Example; crafts, beauty products, gifts, cleaning supplies, greeting cards, or anything you like to make homemade.

Share what it is and if you can how you make it. I can't wait to read your ideas.

In Him,
Lisa
I make my own laundry soap, diaper wipes, and a few others I can't think of right now. I make gift that range from glycerin soap, bath salts, bath bombs, lip balm, I make my own greeting cards with the scrapbooking supplies I never seem to have time to do.

I am starting to make candles to give as gifts, made a few votives but they arn't the prettiest :laff I have also tried to make fabric softener but didn't quite get that right either
I love finding new ways to make something myself and am always anxious to learn new things. Right now I also make our laundry soap and all our cleaning supplies. http://www.thefamilyhomestead.com/homema...eaners.htmI also love to cook and bake from scratch, and my family enjoys getting my homemade goodies as gifts as they know we don't have the money to spend on a lot of gifts. In fact a lot of them have said they prefer my gifts as they don't add to the clutter that they already have and I always try to keep up with special diets they are on or health issues. For instance, my MIL is diabetic, so I always try to make her a gift basket full of sugar free goodies, like apple butter and homemade bread, etc. I also enjoy making little crafts throughout the year, sometimes for no one in particular, but just to have on hand. Right now I'm finishing up a doily I'm making that would make a great b-day or Christmas gift. I always have something going and sometimes several things at once. Hope this helps.
Blessings,

Sara
Wow I don't have the list you girls do!

Ummm birthday cake? haha.

I do make curtains sometimes... I guess that's pretty much it really.
I've also started making jams/jellies.... it will go great with the home-made bread. I'm also making a braided rug for our living room, it is time consuming but it gives me a chance to sit down for awhile. :clap

I also just started to make my own cleaners, (thanks for the site Sara) I have noticed lately that I can't take any strong smells, especially cleaners so these will be easier on my nose, my family's health, and on our $$.
Mainstays,

Here's a recipe I've been using for homemade fabric softener and we love it!

1 Cup Baking Soda
6 Cups of White distilled Vinegar
8 Cups of water
10-15 drops of essential oil (opt)
1 Gallon container (I used a clean milk jug)

In your container put 1 cup of baking soda, then add 1 cup of warm water and swish it around to dissolve a bit. Very slowly add your 6 cups of vinegar. This is a chemical reaction, but it is not harmful and the fumes are not caustic. It will bubble up and settle down. Swish it around a bit more and vent the lid often. Then add the remaining 7 cups of water and your essential oils and swish one more time, again, venting often. Use 1 cup per large load.

I got this somewhere off of the web, but honestly can't remember where. I have been using this as my softener for more than 4 months now and we love it, our clothes are as clean as ever, and with the added essential oils, they smell just as good as they would if I had used downy.

For those of you who don't have time to mix this up, using just a cup of plain ole white vinegar is also good too, but I think the baking soda really helps to get our clothes clean and fresh.

Blessings,
Sara
I used a similar recipe but could never get the baking soda completly dissolved like it said it should. Does your dissolve?
Yes, maybe if you used a bit warmer water and then maybe added just a couple cups of vinegar and swished it up pretty good, that might help. The vinegar should dissolve it, but you just have to mix it up. Hope that helps. If you have any questions, just give me a holler.

Blessings,
Sara
Oh, we just started making homemade tortillas (flour) it is great fun and a good family project.

Also, I make a lot of the girls' clothing. I am working on a quilt for my son, too.
I like to sew. I recently made valances for my kitchen windows and curtains for my bath room. Used to sew a lot, but haven't done as much in the last few years. Have made several dresses and skirts. I recently got some real pretty material at a yard sale, 2 pcs, about 5 yrds ea. Planning to make dresses. Trying to lose wt right now, so waiting a bit on the dresses so they won't be too big. Used to do a lot of crafts, but have kind of gotten away from that. Have crocheted several afghans and a bed spread. Have done some needle point and cross stitching. I made a fence in my front yard this summer. Guess you could call that homemade :D Also made two raised gardens in my yard.

Could you post the recipe for your Flour Tortilla's. I had a recipe my Mom used to use, but lost it.
We used to make homemade pizza when Josh was little. We had fun doing that, but now it's easier with our schedules to just buy it - that's fun, too, cuz usually we are doing something as a family when we do - playing a game, going to the library to watch a movie, etc.

I like to make homemade soup in the winter. I don't follow any recipe, and I just add whatever comes to mind and sounds good. We always like the end results.

I enjoy making cards on the computer.

I used to do a number of different sewing crafts, but just don't have the time to invest in them right now. Hopefully one of these days I will be able to quit my job, and with a slower pace be able to do some of that. This Christmas I am seriously thinking about taking some kind of beginner's kits to my nieces in WA when we visit, and spending a little time with them teaching them...I had fun making a sampler when I was young, and would like to pass that kind of thing on to them. Any suggestions as to the kind of kit? They are 6 and 10.

I think I'd really like to try this out! (and the laundry soap) Where is the best/cheapest place to find essential oils? By the way, my very favorite thing to make is homemade bread--it smells and tastes absolutely wonderful!! And believe me, we sure go through a lot of bread.
Cookies! I just made up some dough last night:

1 lb (2 sticks) softened butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp vanilla
1-1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
6 oz bag sweetened cranberries (Craisins)
1 cup white chips/morsels

Preheat over to 375 F. Line sheets w/parchment paper. Mix butter and br sugar til fluffy. Blend in eggs and vanilla. In separate bowl, blend oats, flour, soda, and salt. Gradually blend into wet mixture. Stir in cranberries and chips. Using tablespoon, place rounds clumps on parchment paper (or ungreased sheet). Bake 10-11 minutes. Cool on rack. Makes 3+ dozen cookies.

I have substituted Splenda for half the sugar. I hope it turns out OK. I'm baking them today. I'll try and let you'll know.

The last few weeks I have been trying to do more made from scratch cooking and I found recipes for Hot Pockets and Corn Dogs using my sandwich maker/cooker... really easy and really good!

bzmomo6, sorry I didn't see your post before (like a year ago LOL!) but the best place to find essential oils for a good price is just to check around. There are a few sites that I have found that had them but it's still a little too steep for me, but then I haven't looked around for quite awhile either.
